We plan to bring regular suggestions of resources you can use to explore your subject interests at home during lockdown. We'll create threads themed by subject, but don’t be afraid to explore suggestions from a range of subjects. First up, English!
No longer able to open, some theatres are putting their performances online! Check out the weekly National Theatre Live performances. One Man, Two Guvnors (featuring James Corden), Jane Eyre, Treasure Island and Twelfth Night are all scheduled for April https://www.nationaltheatre.org.uk/at-home
Some amazing actors and producers are rising to the challenge of creating theatre in this new, virtual world. Check out @robmyles's weekly online Shakespeare readings! Seriously impressive! https://robmyles.co.uk/theshowmustgoonline/
While we're on the topic of Shakespeare, there is a great thread of ideas from @The_Globe here: https://twitter.com/The_Globe/status/1242812640537305089
And in this video from a few years back an ex @UnivOxford student, Ben, talks about reading and studying the two contrasting texts of King Lear. https://www.univ.ox.ac.uk/book/king-lear/
To access books, check out your local library’s online services. They might have ways for you to borrow e-books or audio books so you can keep reading despite library closures.
There are an insane number of podcasts, e-books, videos and more on http://writersinspire.org/ . There’s enough on there to keep you busy through weeks of lock down!
For those interested in poetry, the online poetry journal @praccrit features 'close readings' of single poems and interviews with poets about their craft. http://www.praccrit.com
And check out some literary journals to see what they have online available for free. For example, @poetrymagazine, @Poetry_London, @PN_Review, @LRB, @TheTLS, @LAReviewofBooks
If you're into all things Medieval, the @britishlibrary has an excellent Medieval Manuscripts Blog! http://britishlibrary.typepad.co.uk/digitisedmanuscripts/index.html
And @BBCInOurTime has an amazing archive of episodes. Three experts talk to the presenter Melvyn Bragg about a new topic each week. The 'culture' ones if you're interested in English Lit. Each episode usually has a follow up reading list too http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01drwny
