Our researchers are supporting the efforts of the UK authorities in a number of ways, including 👇
🦠 @tomrconnor - @CUBiosciences will take a leading role in the COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK), which will deliver large scale, rapid sequencing of the genome, sharing intelligence with hospitals, regional NHS centres and the UK Government.

ℹ️ @CTRCardiffUni is in discussions about developing treatment trials to support primary care to prevent mild COVID-19 from becoming more serious, and in secondary care to treat serious and critical COVID-19 patients.
🏥 We’ve been donating our supplies of PPE, which we know is such an issue at the moment and vital for the protection of NHS staff treating Covid-19 patients. Here are just some of the donations from across the University 👇

👩⚕‍ Staff from @CUHealthSci are providing training and refresher courses in the essential skills that are required on the front line, such as the use of ventilators, diagnostic equipment and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). https://twitter.com/annaj41/status/1243191055241089025
🏥 Parts of our Cochrane Building have been re-purposed into a training facility. This initiative is providing PPE training to hundreds of NHS staff.

The ground floor of our Dental Hospital is being used by @CV_UHB to increase its emergency case handling capacity.
👩⚕‍ In consultation with NHS Wales, we’re working to fast-track final-year Medicine students to be available to support front-line NHS teams.
We’re currently coordinating a response to a @WelshGovernment call for companies and researchers with expertise, capability and facilities that can support the manufacture of ventilators, and potentially other medical devices.
☎️ We’ve launched a virtual call centre in which more than 120 staff have volunteered to check on students staying in Cardiff twice a week to ensure that they’re receiving all the support they need.
🏥 Staff in our School of Medicine have turned seminar rooms into rooms for the extra @CV_UHB anaesthetic staff sleeping overnight.
🧪Staff and PhD students @CUBiosciences
are coordinating a group of volunteers to help the roll-out of testing to all frontline NHS staff and beyond by preparing reagents for #COVID19 testing by @PublicHealthW.
👤 Social work students from @CUSocSci have taken on voluntary and paid roles in various caring roles to help local authorities care for vulnerable people.
🧪 Dr Alan Parker and his team, whose work on cancer is funded by @CR_UK, are drawing on their expertise in viruses to help in the fight against coronavirus. https://buff.ly/348DVpJ
