A rumor that a virus leaked from a lab. in China was causing a biohazard in the surrounding area was well known among us, the faculty of U. of Tokyo, since Oct. last year, but there was a gag order inside and we were instructed not to release the information to the outside.

It is unfortunate that the world could have been quicker to deal with the problem if the university hadn't given such a high priority to China.
