Ok I probably shouldn't tempt myself like this, but is this a mashup you'd like to see? If I get 200 likes on this tweet, I will drop everything I'm doing and spend a few days making a StarFox-inspired prototype with the Race The Sun engine.
I'm going to go for a walk and I'd be very disappointed if you all start retweeting this for some reason. I'm definitely very busy in this crazy economy and not stuck at home with no other important deadlines coming up.
Need to remind myself how this game works.
Remember the electric washing machine boss? This game was so bizarre.
It's a start! Added vertical axis movement and corridor limits on horizontal movement.
I'm going to livestream development of this prototype in about 4 hours at 1pm central time today:
Day 2: Tinkering with colors and lighting. Also hooked up lasers and got a basically functional camera/physics model.
Day 3: Tinkering more with colors, new ship (from Race The Sun: Challenge Edition), also properly clamped vertical movement. Next up: Proper shooting, and need to figure out how to make enemies for this prototype.
More updates! It's amazing How cool you can make Race The Sun's world look when the Sun doesn't need to be directly facing the camera :)

Also I've run into an interesting gameplay dilemma, see my next tweet.
The original Starfox SNES had a pretty slow movement and a super close draw distance. That made hitting things without a reticle pretty doable. I'm finding that's not really the case here! I guess this is why more recent Starfox games have a 3D reticle, lock-on etc. Hmm...
And just to interject on this thread for a moment: every time I look at another Starfox game beyond the SNES version, it makes me think maybe texture mapping was a mistake.
Dusting off the Race The Sun level editor. Need to figure out how this world will be put together :)
I'm getting really excited about this little prototype! I Just played for about 30 minutes because I was having fun just flying around. I'll post another update video tomorrow, and hopefully will have a thing for Patreon supporters by Sunday! #pewpew
Another update! I've got a basic enemy AI and combat is pretty functional.
