Here& #39;s my way of explaining the difficulty in the global supply chain getting N95 masks to key workers right now. To explain, I use a simplified analogy with a much less important product: a Mars bar #maskshortage
Summary: individual health units need a steady supply of hundreds or thousands of masks. They need to buy these from suppliers a step or two up the supply chain who have bought larger numbers. Individual doctors or key workers units can& #39;t go direct to factories to buy millions.
Who am I? I design products, build supply chains and import from China. Since the mask shortage, I& #39;ve investigated how I importers like me can help by going direct to a medical supplies manufacturer. It is possible we can help, but only at the right point in the supply chain.
I& #39;m in touch with larger health organisations across UK, Europe and US to see if we can match up their critical demand with the right sized supplier. Research, contacting the right people who need these larger numbers of masks simply takes time. We& #39;re getting there.
