Why do you have new shoes?
Why did you get a TV/have cable?
Why are you buying a steak or chips or pop?

Questions I hope gov assistance seeking corporate CEOs & WallStreet execs are being asked.

Cause I know I certainly was asked them as a child receiving 'welfare.'

Oh & you need a drug test before you receive any of the money b/c you can’t be trusted to use it in the way it was intended.

These same questions are still being asked, and assumptions made, of many of the children and families I serve.

Students and families impacted by generations of unjust systems - healthcare, economic, education, judicial, housing etc. The list goes on

So infuriating when gov support is okay for one group of people but not for others.

And you sure as hell know who the ‘others’ are.

Look, I'm not saying that corporate bailouts aren't needed - I'm not an economist.

Though I question why they weren't smart enough to save for emergencies when times were better. They should just have to figure it out like me. (Do you hear how ridiculous that sounds?)

And I also question why it seems our capitalistic system needs a socialist style jumpstart/resuscitation every decade or two while in the same breath deriding democratic socialism as patently un-American. But that is a topic for another thread/rant.

I digress.

What I am saying is that safety nets for people are there for a reason. And because you need some extra support, doesn't make you an 'other' or less than.

Hopefully we can come to agree on that especially once we come through the other side of this.

I'll add one more thing before I step off my soapbox:
If we can pull $2 trillion out of seemingly thin air, we can afford healthcare for everyone. Healthcare is a right - treat it as such.

Okay, two more things:
Pay folks a living wage.
