For far too long we've had the luxury of coasting along a river of privilege. Routine daily lives insulated from the harshness of daily reality in the world. Foreign wars, plagues, & catastrophes exactly that -foreign. Seen thru the lens of a camera. Not touching us. Not OF us.
Even domestic tragedies, mass shootings, and acts of domestic terrorism are sanitized in the nightly news, separate from us, almost reduced to the mythology of a "reality show" script.

And so it all rolls off, leaving the majority of our lives untouched and unchallenged.

But Americans are, by culture, a nation of brawlers. We need an outlet for the rugged "John Wayne individualism" which is the keystone of our national consciousness.

So out of boredom we've turned to politics.

Our reps and leaders are chosen in a WWF style personality contest with no regard to actual qualification.

It's FUN

Until recently, largely inconsequential for the majority of Americans. At least not in ways that they would notice right away (or can't blame on something else)
Unfortunately, years of electing pirates has had consequences. Pirates and carnival barkers are fun to watch on stage, but cannot respond in any adequate fashion to a real crisis. They react to every development in any way that keeps their audience entertained.

6/
Twisting from one position to another with shifting perception of public opinion. With every change in direction and self-serving contradiction knitting a bad situation into a Gordian knot of increasing tragedy.

7/
It doesn't matter if you LIKE Donald Trump or not. It doesn't matter if you think he's fun to watch or if his very countenance causes the bile to rise in your throat.

That doesn't matter.

What matters is that he is simply, fundamentally, INADEQUATE TO THIS TASK.

8/
And he is being aided and abetted by a multitude of other entertaining pirates and buffoons elected for their entertainment potential and not their competence.

9/
If Americans cannot bring themselves to elect leaders who can govern and lead, then our country cannot be stronger on the other side of this. America will be broken.

10/
We must choose our leaders from the best of us. Those with integrity and the experience required to do the job of government

Sure, that's BORING

But what we are only beginning to realize is that BOREDOM IS A PRIVILEGE
