This is what provoked my tweet. I'm not just referring to the president, though, but to deeply rooted ways of thinking.
What is the alternative? In Lincoln's 2d Inaugural, he looked to an era of healing: "let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan..."
