Who is Henry Ruggs III?

Ruggs vs LSU film breakdown starts now
Alright.. by this time you guys know how this goes.. there will be about 20-25 clips. I don't post highlights. I think they lie. I want to see consistency. I want to know who the player is. These videos are basically notes. Lets get started
First play. Ruggs in the bottom slot. Nothing special about running through this zone but i do like how he fully extended for the ball with bodies around him. Caught the ball all hands away from his body. I really like that.
I thought the last play showed a little toughness. This really shows how tough he is.. doesnt hoe up. Has safety Delpit running full speed at him and all Ruggs does is get his base right and stand in there. maybe my favorite Ruggs play
Now this is something you'll see a ton this game. and its why I like watching guys against equal comp. What does Ruggs do to threaten Kristian Fulton here? 90% of the reps in their battle Fulton was un-bothered
I need to see the speed.. i need to feel it. Alot of times i can see it or feel it by looking at the cornerback. Do you make the corner's time clock speed up? didnt there
Up top. Fulton hits Ruggs with the quick jam. That tells me Fulton really doesnt care about Ruggs 4.27 speed. Make the corner respect you. No respect there.
Looks like maybe an RPO.. LT gets out but all the receivers are running routes hard. Ruggs vs Fulton up top. Again, Fulton not respecting Ruggs speed. Reads Ruggs down well. No separation.
Ruggs vs Fulton up top.

49ers coach Shanahan said its sometimes hard to evaluate receivers coming out of college because they dont see press alot. Well Ruggs saw alot of it this game. Fulton again.. hands on.. reads him down.. not worried about Ruggs deep speed
Now this was solid by Ruggs at the bottom. Good but not great. Great is what Smith did to Stingley up top. Ruggs does a good job of getting Fulton to step under himself.. from there he was just chasing. Not bad there.. But Smith up top.. sheeesh
Now this is good. Bottom of the screen.. thats how you move the corner at the LOS. Rocked Fulton back on his heels. Didn't get the ball but gave Fulton something to think about. I do believe Ruggs has nice fluid movement skills. Just be more consistent
Was this just a clearout for Jeudy? If so that would explain why he didnt work harder to get open. I hope thats why lol
I know Jeudy gets all the love on this play.. Its clear Jeudy cant be guarded in the slot with space. But whats even more impressive is Ruggs route at the bottom.. Whoop him off the line.. great feet.. moved him.. Once the corner is on your back hes at your mercy. Great route
At the bottom.. Fulton shows press late.. Again Fulton comfortably gets in phase. Cant let Fulton squeeze you to the sideline like the either. Work to stack him or something. Cant just let it be that easy
Now this is good. Gets Fulton on his back again.. stacks Fulton.. Nice at the top of the route and then they both kinda slow down like the play is over lol Good job by Ruggs to keep playing.. Bad by Fulton. Good overall play by Ruggs! Relly good rep
really*
At the bottom. I think at this point id have to think to myself "How have i moved Fulton?" and then try to work that. Good patience by Fulton.. not as much by Ruggs.. Gotta move the corner. He's done it a few times.
Random thought but you know who's really good with his releases.... Cephus from Wisconsin. Hes solid but just doesnt have any juice. i Watched him the other day..i kinda like him. Anyways back to Ruggs
In motion.. have the corner off.. Now you have space.. you have to win with space.. Ruggs doesnt win with space.. Just like press.. you have to move the corner. But its definitely beautiful when i see a corner dictate the receivers route depth. BEAUTIFUL
Nice catch here over the middle. Is he running off the ball? or is the play designed for wr3 to clear it out so he purposely takes his time?
As im watching this im looking for

-Routes
-Separation skills
-Beat press?
-Top of routes
-Threaten corners vertically?
-Slot/Outside versatility
-Play big?
-Play fast?
-Elusiveness after catch?
and more

I have a mental checklist. That last play didn't tell me any of this
He does work to move the freshman ive been told his name is Cordale Flott.. Great work by the kid to stay square. Rugg's has to get him to open those hips up and then come back underneath. Push vertically a little more to get the cb going up field..
Ruggs in the slot vs Flott. Great job by Flott again dictating how he wants Ruggs to run this route.. I like that freshman
Fulton back in. Ruggs lined up with a tight split.. Maybe its just LSU's db's lol. But i try to watch what guys do against top comp. Whats consistent.. where does the receiver struggle?.. i want to know what can Ruggs hang his hat on? Like we KNOW he can do this.. what is that?
Ruggs up top vs Fulton. He does work to move Fulton. Fulton just doesnt go for it. Fulton is my CB3 and if it weren't for Okudah and Henderson i think he'd get more love. I really like his game. Very patient. Even vs 4.27 speed
Last clip.. I actually though Smith was the best all around receiver Alabama had. No idea why he stayed lol.. anyways good job initially by Ruggs.. press outside.. come back inside.. Maybe Tua was taking a shot to Smith the whole time
That's it for Ruggs. Fulton is more like what he'll see at the next level. I think he has a terrific skill set. I don't think hes close to what he can be. It will take a lot of work to be what i believe twitter thinks he is RIGHT NOW. Needs to work with Keith Williams wr guru
For my 49ers fans who like him @ 13... im not sure about that. Big play ABILITY but i dont think it's something that'll be consistent until he works on being consistent at all the other little things
