Jon if you'd like to learn what the word "feminist" means, I'd love to have that convo with you. The fact you are bragging about "triggering" us when you were in fact being problematic makes me think you don't understand what we are. I bet you'd even get some more followers! https://twitter.com/jjbcattleco/status/1232668032566276096
My friend @KeithDeHaas said ‘The privileged group will view equality with a less privileged group as oppression - as if lifting you up to their level is the same as lowering them to yours.’ @jjbcattleco is that how u feel?
Now @jjbcattleco let’s start with the basics. Personally I consider myself an intersectional feminist. The feminist movement has been evolving. I believe feminism should support BIPOC. Here is a good starting point http://intersectionalfeminism.org
Before we go further though, I think it’s important to share this. Often we we’re learning about a topic that makes us uncomfortable it’s easy to lash out, etc. here’s hoping we can keep this civil, learn something AND get Jon some new followers!
Now @jjbcattleco I know your a man, but I wrote this after what I experienced from some women in ag. I feel like it’s a good way to get you to see my point of view. Not I’m gonna work on this thread and get you some more resources over the next few days. http://thebeefjar.com/2019/03/22/be-better-agriculture-how-women-perpetuate-sexism/
I’ve been thinking about @jjbcattleco use of the word ‘triggered’. As someone who is open about my mental health, and since ag twitter has decided to take it seriously, I think this is an important convo to have. ‘Triggering’ someone simply is not funny https://www.theodysseyonline.com/triggered-joke-funny
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco "A movement of powerful women is seen as threatening. Reflecting that, the media creates negative stereotypes of these powerful women: Who would want to be a bra burner?" https://www.apa.org/gradpsych/2006/09/feminism
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco "Personally, I look forward to the day when feminism can cease to exist; the day when we no longer need to fight for gender equality because treating people equally becomes a natural instinct" https://vocal.media/viva/why-i-m-a-feminist-1
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco today I’d like to introduce you to a different feminist (I know you think there is only one by your The Feminist comment, as flattering as that was it’s not true) @monaeltahawy is amazing. She’s loud, smart amazing. She might make you uncomfortable.
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco “Imagine a world where showing emotion, loving Adele or staying home with your kids wasn’t considered feminine, and therefore less than.” https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_574f1d58e4b0c3752dcc3018
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco today I thought a meme would be appropriate. This is true, if I get ‘triggered’ I must have deserved it, right? I probably ‘had it coming’.
This is why we need #feminism
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco today I think this is a good share for today. Many of us are hypervigilant because the fear is real. I had a traumatic experience in college that will forever make me aware of my surroundings. Again why we need #feminism
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco today I’d like to introduce you to @manwhohasitall he does a good job of switching #gender roles in such a way that exposes how silly they are. He highlights the need for #feminism.
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco#Mentalhealth is a #feminist issue because women’s experiences have often been, and continue to be, pathologized... Women are more likely to be referred to as ‘crazy’ for example — both in daily conversation and in the media." https://www.talkspace.com/blog/mental-health-feminist-issue/
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco this meme is so true. Women are challenged often. Especially if we are ‘outspoken’ or aren’t supporting the status quo. I mean for example look at me, I talk about #equality and you call me #TheFeminist
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco today this tweet from @heyyguido
When married men disparage #feminism this is often what I think about.
Dear Jon @jjbcattleco I support #feminism because I want to benefit all women. Standing up to men who use feminism as a pejorative has become important to me, as you see by this thread. I hope you are starting to learn more about why that is important.
