Okay. Kickstarter is over. Cleaning all day. Gonna do it. Gonna do the EPIC SIMPSONS REWATCH starting with ep1 s1. Let’s see how far I get
S1: the shortest season. Loved it a lot more than I remembered. Most of the plots revolve around the family’s exceptional awfulness; still playing the early FOX anti-TV family card. Homer’s stupidity is within normal human parameters. I flagged my fave ep, what’s yours?
Clear winner for me:
S2: 1st full season. Still finding its legs, tho we do get 1st flashback ep, 1st THoH, 1st uber-Christian Ned, 1st Phil Hartman. Overall weak, tho with some real classics, buoyed by great guests. What’s your fave?
(Warning: I am prejudiced toward all baseball eps)

Honorable Mention: Up until “Bart the Daredevil”, this was a fairly “realistic” sitcom, but here they start to embrace the absurd potentials of animation.
Anti-Honorable Mention: “O Brother Where Art Thou” is where Homer starts to tip over from “Average Schmo” (which is what Danny DeVito thinks he is) to “World’s Dumbest Human”. Everything the much-despised “Homer’s Enemy” (s8 e23) does, this does first, and as badly
Pretty sure “Old Money” is the first time we see desert right outside Springfield (this GIF from diff ep)
“Brush with Greatness” has the 1st Act One (Homer gets stuck at water park) that is a non-sequiter to the rest of so (Marge rediscovers painting, gets hits to paint Mr Burns)
There are a lot of sentimental episodes in this season, but this one really earns its heartbreaking ending, great guesting by Hoffman, plus the B story of Bart running for class prez...[chefs kiss]
S3: Wildly out of whack ratio of stinkers to classics...1st family trip (WDC)...1st Fat Tony...Homer is slightly smarter than Lionel Hutz...for first time, struggling to name just a Top Four. Lemme know what you think:
Loved “I Married Marge” way more than I thought I would...def top 3 of flahsback eps (gif not from ep)
Weirdly, “Lisa’s Pony” was once a personal favorite, but already these Homer-Disappoints-Lisa stories feel formulaic. (“Lisa the Greek” also s3) Fear this does not bode well for future of rewatch... but c’est la vie
Also already tired of Homer-Gets-Fired stories, which meant this classic didn’t make the cut either
“I still like him better than Steinbrenner” ... “Homer at Bat” is the first truly gonzo ep, harbinger of things to come...a million great bits that don’t really hang together as a story, like, say, “Radio Bart”
This was a tough call, but the Law & Order Bart vs Rebel Lisa of “Separate Vocations” won me over by a squeaker
S4: the first truly GREAT season...Hard to whittle this down to four...Could’ve easily gone with “Itchy & Scratchy the Movie”...”Selma’s Choice”...”A Streetcar Named Marge”...but here’s what I landed on. Let me know what *you* think:
Fun Fact: Bette Miller and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are the only guest stars from “Krusty Gets Kancelled” that are still alive
“Brother from The Same Planet” was the episode that my pal @LastTrilobite basically acted out for me before I had ever seen the show and I was like “I gotta see this”
But cmon this is the rare season where the #1 slot was a no-brainer
S5: Greater than the last one! So hard to choose, too many runners up to even list here...the pan & scan on Disney+ is kind of annoying, but so many gags were cut out for syndication! Feel like I’m watching them for th first time...!
“Marge on the Lam” almost got on for the Homer-stuck-in-vending machine bit alone...
“Homer Goes to College” is really when he goes totally over the deep end into Stupider Than the Stupidest Stupid Who Ever Stupided (still, it’s great)
Pretty sure “Bart’s Inner Child” is the first town-gets-seized-by-a-single-craze episode (“Whacking Day” is close but that’s a long-standing tradition)
“Boy Scoutz in the Hood” was the first ep I taped on what became a 12 VHS sized collection in the late 90s... (kids DM me and I’ll explain VHS to you)
LETS GO CRAZY BROADWAY STYLE

“Deep Space Homer” BARELY edged out the casino one...a coin toss, really
