So amidst this global pandemic @Its_Badshah decides to launch "his new song" which is not at all "his song" and nothing but a pure cringe fest and a very traumatising and heartbreaking cringefest. #GendaPhool

Read on.Thread. (1/n)
If you have listened to the song, you would find these recurring lines:

" boroloker biti lo lomba lomba chuul,
emon mathaye bendhe debo laal Genda phool"(in Bengali)

English:
"O rich man’s daughter with long-long hair,I will set a red marigold flower in your hair". (2/n)
Now let us go back to the year 1972. Young folk singer Ratan Kahar ( in photo) met a young mother in one of his 'baul' akharas. The young mother, while tying red ribbons to her toddler's her, narrated her tragic life story.
(3/n)
She talked about how she fell in love with a boroloker chhele( a guy from a rich household) who duped her, made love with her, and then abandoned her when she conceived the baby.

(4/n)
She said her baby had such beautiful "chandpana" face ( which means as beautiful as the moon) because her father was a boroloker chhele ( "borolok" in Bengali means rich household and "chhele" is son).
(5/n)
This story inspired the then young Ratan Kahar to compose this song which was to change the course of Bengali folk forever. In 1976, the first recording of the song was released by folk stalwart Swapna Chakraborty. The composition went on to receive Golden Disc Award. ( 6/n)
Ratan Kahar, now an octogenarian , has enriched Bengali folk profusely, with his Jhumur, Alkap,Bhadu compositions. He has battled against poverty all his life and even took to tying beedis to make both ends meet.

A complete "matir manush"( man of earth), he has always considered his songs as his daughters. Once when someone tried to pay him for his tune he said " biti biNche taka lubo naa."( English: I can't sell my daughters to earn) He never made it to the limelight. (8/n)
This is a really short and onpoint thread on this man. He has much accolades to his name which I could not mention due to Twitter restrictions. Now @Its_Badshah decides to take out a really cringeworthy spin off of Kahar's two lines without giving him any credit. (9/n)
Badshah's remix has some really problematic lyrics like- " Chale Jab Tu Latak Matak, Laundo Ke Dil Patak Patak, Sansein Jaye Atak Atak, Aata Majhi Satak Satak", which is not only problematic but stands as a direct opposition to the original song's tragic premise.

(10/n)
We, the Bengalis and Bengali culture, are highly indebted to Ratan Kahar and it's shameful that none of us could pay our dues to Kahar all these years and even more shameful that we had to witness Badshah wrecking havoc on this treasure.
Kahar definitely deserves better.

So @Its_Badshah @sonymusic @Asli_Jacqueline and the rest, will you please take your rubbish down and publicly apologize?! Shame on you for passing something on as your own product without due credits. You stole Kahar's song.I cant begin to imagine how pathetic you are.
(12/12)
The cringefest has some 33 M views ugghhhh!!!
In ( 3/n) toddler's hair*
Also this was very hamfistedly written, so sorry readers if you happen to find any more typos.
Okay this has come after the backlash and hue and cry it seems. Anyway this is a rubbish remix. Apologize for what you have done and for not giving Kahar his due credit.
Although Badshah has issued statement, his statement seems to be/ is very vague and superficial for a whole lot of reasons. Also I am not taking this thread down. I want more people to know about Ratan Kahar's story and the story behind this song.
