I have been pondering (through the night) some of the things that we could put back in our control. I know that none of us know how long this is going to last and my idea is preemptively premature, but it's a serious suggestion, so I thought that I'd give it plenty of time to...
circulate.
When school closed to the majority of students, it happened with little notice. It also closed with a number of children and staff already absent.
When school closed, already in the middle of a Pandemic, there was no hugging, no leavers' assemblies, no performance...
But more important than that, there was no transition, because there wasn't really an end. There was just a temporary suspension of normality (for we don't know how long) and a quick gear shift and swerve into this unfamiliar detour.

People are carrying on (incredibly well...
considering), but there are a lot of things that they are missing out on, And some a great deal more than others.
I know that many teachers, parents and children are already concerned about the widening gap in learning because of very different home lives. I know that many...
will feel totally unprepared for the next stage (emotionally even more than educationally). I can imagine myself regressing socially (and I was already bad enough), so imagine what it will be like for some children.
So, despite previously talking about living for today, here...
is my plan for the future:

(if you like it and want to share it, you can start from here 👇)...
Assuming we go back to school in September (big assumption I know)

What if:
When we return, we don't move into our new year groups straight away.
What if:
We reclaimed the Summer term (all be it in Winter).
What if:
(for the first year) we all returned to where we were for...
one term and transitioned in the Spring.
What if:
We had time to settle children back into their routine, in an environment they were familiar with; with teachers they already had a relationship with.
What if:
We got to say goodbye, with hugs, assemblies and performances...
What if:
There were graduations and proms.
What if:
Expectations and exams were shifted or altered for another year, while we ensure that everyone is OK (SATs and league tables never need to come back).

What if we just made sure that the world was OK, before we started...
measuring and judging, being measured or judged.

What if we put people before everything else (like the love I'm seeing now) and we stepped back into our classrooms for a celebration of that love, and everything we've been through together/apart.

What if?
