My friend just got laid off along with 400 other employees by dialing into a pre-recorded Zoom message. Her manager never even called to say goodbye. The virus may be out of your control, but how humanely you handle it is not.
Okay have permission to reveal it was @BirdRide. WITH A PRE-RECORDED MESSAGE. Fuming. https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ˜€" title="Face with look of triumph" aria-label="Emoji: Face with look of triumph">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ˜€" title="Face with look of triumph" aria-label="Emoji: Face with look of triumph">https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="đŸ˜€" title="Face with look of triumph" aria-label="Emoji: Face with look of triumph">
(1/3) Update: Bird has stated that the call was not pre-recorded. Many who were on the call have contacted me to say it sounded “robotic” + that if it WAS a live reading of a script, it was easily mistaken for a recording. That was the general impression, which is significant.
(2/3) I was not on the call myself, so I can’t say definitively one way or another. I can say that if anything, I have only learned additional disturbing information about the handling of this whole situation since tweeting about it.
(3/3) I had no idea this would get so much attn, but the fact that it is hitting such a nerve shows me that this is indicative of a much wider trend. I hope that companies making difficult decisions right now will think hard about how to treat employees with kindness and respect.
