And yes, fair to question @AmitShah on this emerging situation. He's the home minister. #Lockdown21 may have been a good, necessary step but the least he can do is coordinate -- or force -- all state govts to ensure immediate safe shelter or transport for these migrants. #Covid19 https://twitter.com/Bhuvanbagga/status/1243608655787786240
Seeing reports that @UPGovt finally arranged some buses overnight and more now for 100s who've reached there walking from different parts of #Delhi. Maybe even @ArvindKejriwal should arrange some buses (maybe just for a day/ two) to drop them at UP border: https://twitter.com/scribe_prashant/status/1243759073532588034?s=20
Spent a few hours today afternoon on the road outside Anand Vihar bus terminal at the Delhi - UP border. Crazy visuals. Tens of thousands of people. More coming. Mostly on foot from across Delhi. Lots to criticise both @ArvindKejriwal and @myogiadityanath govts. #Lockdown21
Tens of thousands of migrant workers fleeing India's 21-day lockdown over #Covid19 from the national capital jostled for limited number of buses at Delhi's Anand Vihar border earlier today. My pics for @AFPphoto @AFPSouthAsia @AFP
#Lockdown21 Almost all these thousands of workers walked to this Delhi border from other parts of India's capital. Here, they were in long, serpentine queues -- some of them in fact four parallel queues in one, and at least 500 meters long for their buses. My @AFPphoto. @AFP
With India locked down over the #coronavirus and no way to earn money, Dilipji Thakor faces a grim choice: either walk home or die hungry. Millions of migrants like him are leaving India's major cities since #21daylockdown was announced. My report for @AFP https://twitter.com/akannampilly/status/1243871719338762242?s=19
So here's what I heard from the fleeing migrants. Flagging some of the quick observations and points. 1/n: https://twitter.com/Bhuvanbagga/status/1243936462833430530?s=20
Many migrants I spoke with felt that Delhi govt had oversold their good food at shelters claim. Many failed to find or get there because of lockdown restrictions. Others were not too impressed and wanted their village freedom. 2/n https://twitter.com/Bhuvanbagga/status/1243942722299408384?s=20
Some respect for both @Uppolice & @DelhiPolice, who had a really tough job managing the numbers. There was a real chance of a stampede yesterday and I saw how tough it's to ensure everyone stays in queues, when it could mean being their for hours and, possibly, even overnight 3/n
Some cops righly blamed a lack of coordination b/w Delhi and UP govts. UP wasn't responding fast enough to surging numbers and Delhi, knowing, that the border was packed still didn't stop some of its buses from dropping more people there till numbers eased - risking mishap. 4/n
Many good Delhi people helped these migrants with fruits (mostly bananas), water and biscuits etc as they walked from their neighbourhoods towards the border. Politicians were, sadly, mostly missing. Didn't see any as I drove around Delhi. Heard no accounts from migrants. 5/n
UP had enough clarity by late Friday/ Saturday noon (if not earlier) about the people's flood coming their way. They were too slow. Could have moved faster to the situation. Now, hopefully all being scanned at these terminals -- necessary and good. 6/6 https://twitter.com/alok_pandey/status/1244084064652374021?s=20
Indian PM @narendramodi addressed the nation earlier today through his monthly radio programme -- @mannkibaat. This was a day after tens of thousands of migrants reached Delhi borders, trying to get back to their distant villages during #lockdown21. He apologized to the people:
"Many must be angry w/ me for locking them inside homes. I understand your problems but with 1.3 billion population, there was no other way possible to fight #coronavirus. It is a fight b/w life and death...taking this tough step was necessary to keep all safe," @narendramodi.
"I start with an apology to my countrymen. I had to take some decisions which have inconvenienced you in various ways, especially to my poor brothers and sisters. I especially ask for their forgiveness," @narendramodi on #lockdown21.
Indian govt ( @DG_PIB) has now asked states to ensure that there is no movement of people across cities and action against anyone asking students or labourers to vacate. #covid19 #India

And I was there too (check the pics above). Saw so many policemen from UP & Delhi (rightly) helping so many migrant workers. If not for their efforts, so many lives would have been at risk. https://twitter.com/someshjha7/status/1245367022663266306?s=20
