Here’s a short thread about the gay-coding I’ve noticed for Louis from Beastars and his relationship with Legosi. This isn’t their best moments per se, just ones that stuck out as particularly romantic.
When Louis first sees Legosi after a long time, his first reaction “he’s the only [male] I didn’t want here.” I don’t feel there was much other reason to specify his gender other than the romantic implications, and the rest of this page’s phrasing is romantic as well.
This panel can be read a few different ways, but to me this reads as Louis acknowledging that they had somewhat of a moment, which was inappropriate now that Legosi is physical with Haru.
I’m sure we all understand that these panels are drawn in pretty romantic ways, and that makes sense. Legosi was ready to throw his entire life away just to happily live with Louis. And Louis has to reject him, but still takes a moment to hold and gaze at him before they part.
Louis does have a romance going on with Juno in the manga, but his “attraction” to her seems kind of fake to me, especially because of his original indifference to their kiss, and him only loving carnivores the way he does becase of Legosi.
Louis’s attraction to Juno all seems like a misdirected attraction towards Legosi, and he never loved Haru. He only liked having someone weaker than him. This is why I believe he’s gay and not bisexual.
Louis and Legosi’s relationship is so deep and real, and it’s especially felt in this moment. Legosi is the only person in the world who ever made Louis cry, and Louis even trusted Legosi to eat him alive if it meant he could fight Riz full-throttle.
Riz’s feelings for Tem are so confirmed to be romantic, and it’s not a coincidence that Legosi pictured Louis while he fought with Riz instead of Tem. Tem and Louis constantly being compared, even by Riz, during this fight definitely means something.
A problem I have with Legosi and Haru’s relationship is how often they’re coded to be false, and this sequence basically confirms that. Legosi loves herbivores, not Haru. Louis even tells him this. Or maybe he does love Haru, but for skewed reasons.
I’d just like to mention how no matter what, even if they haven’t seen each other in months, they’re always thinking about each other.
Louis once again finds very weird phrasing to describe his experiences with attraction. Obviously this confirms he isn’t attracted to herbivores, but instead of thinking of Juno, he specifically says he’s comfortable around [male] carnivores, something he thinks around Legosi.
Not about Louis and Legosi, but Louis pretty obviously preferences men. He threw up after trying to have sex with a girl, and then asked one of his male gang members to comfort him. Even his father acknowledges the possibility of him being gay.
Louis can’t get out his feelings, and it’s not just him being a typical tsundere. He can’t get them out because it’s Legosi. Because he doesn’t want to embarrass himself in front of his crush.
