No Man's Sky Permadeath run number four has passed the 15 hour mark, making it the longest attempt yet, by concentrating on staying safe. Not that I've had much choice. The pickings have been pretty slim. I still haven't found a good replacement ship in this Podunk quadrant.
This weird multitool showed up in a neighboring space station. $3.5 million was more than I had to spend at that time but a bit later an amiable Vy'keen gave me a nicer broken one (with less than ideal slot layout) for free. I think this is the first S-Class I've come across.
I've set up shop by a trading post on the stinkiest planet with the safest wildlife in the system, the same planet I woke up on. I've allowed myself one cheat: I moved my base computer onto the platform. Another base is by a nest of larval cores but I'm too afraid to farm them.
My starter freighter is an absolute heap. It's a C-class with literally the worst possible stats it could have and the most hopeless freighter I've ever seen in over 1000 hours of play.
It's not all bad though. The next system, the system that was just out of reach of a single warp, is a real peach. It has a paradise planet with very friendly locals and teeming with riches just beneath its fertile soil. I'll very likely move here.
It may look like a bug made love to a toaster but an A:28+8 is a big upgrade.
It's not all bad on the stinky planet. My little toaster bug likes it.
A few lightyears south, however, the local sentinels are quite rude. Look at them tossing around my little ship like animals.
Some of the locals there have pretty flash sleds. I wanted this one but not bad enough to trade in for it. I'll be back with money later and hopefully can track the pilot down.
I'm not ready to give up my little toaster bug, even if it can't parallel park to save its life.
Over 30 hours into Permadeath run #4, more than twice my longest now. At this point I'm pretty well kitted out and am not feeling much danger (which itself is dangerous). I've spent the last 15 hours mostly puttering around my little base, now powered by electromagnetism.
While exploring, gathering crafting materials, nanites, and cash, I came across another exotic ship on my own little Stinkus Prime. That's such a rare spawn in this impoverished backwater system I'll probably never see it again.
I also finally found a decent multitool. Though not an S-class, it's loaded with slots. $3,400,000 was more than half my cash so I passed on it. But a little while later I freely traded for it with a piece of junk a Vy'keen gave me.
In my travels, I somehow never explored one of the planets in my home system. It turned out to be really lovely, with lush meadows and deep valleys to plummet into. It has some full on Middle-earth vibes including Mallorn trees. I wish I had a new GPU to better appreciate it!
I found an S-class Fighter in this sanguineous nest of pushy sentinels. That cop-magnet wasn't the blue Exotic I've been trying to track down but I had to have it. Meanwhile, drop pod hunting has been quite fruitful.
This isn't cheating, is it? I've had way too many "exciting" moments caused by glitches.
Ah, Home Sweet Ho— wait a minute. I remember my base being bigger than this.
Parking has not improved.
This rescued A-class Capital Ship would have been major upgrade but it was way out of my price range even with the discount. I like that model despite the easy-to-hit geometry right outside the landing area. Pretty color, too.
Grinding out the last few blueprints by raiding Manufacturing Facilities. Then I'll be able to make some serious bucks to buy a Capital Ship ... although I can't forget my primary mission is to find a nice S-class Explorer to start my journey to the center of the galaxy.
You'll get it right one day, Toasterbug.
Just finished planting for my little industrial plantation. Time to make some money!
The fruits of my first harvest. I very much doubt you can craft this in Animal Crossing, Tom Nook.
I have gas.
Two lucky scores to night. First, I managed to earn some NipNip Buds at the Nexus, so that's all the crops sorted. Then, as I was landing at my base, that super-rare S-class Exotic came flying in next to me. I'm still on the look out for that other one and an S-class Explorer.
Close call today. Sometimes when I pulse-jump towards my freighter, I'll crash right into it and get stuck. My ship will take continuous damage until I work it free. This time I was in my wimpy starter ship, getting jumped by pirates. Ending a run this way would be sub-optimal.
Tonight I spent some time on a space station stalking, buying, and scrapping ships to grind out 50,000 Nanites to upgrade my Toasterbug to S-class, while keeping an eye out for anything good. I was packing it in for the night when this cute S-class Bug dropped in. Perfect timing!
Then, incredibly, look what landed right next to it — the Exotic I've been chasing since the start of the run! I absolutely adore both of these designs. What a score!
