One positive side effect of the coronavirus is that retired engineers are moving into epidemiology and sparing us their views on climate change https://twitter.com/FraserNelson/status/1243266492063461376?s=19
Update on this paper. It says we have converged on China's trajectory. And based on this, we can expect a peak in deaths on a single day of 260 on the 5th of April. We hit 260 today. That curve fitting exercise looking pretty good so far!
Final update on this as I don't like tweeting about covid. The author in these tweets effectively admits that their original paper was total rubbish.
The media is failing us badly on covid coverage. This obviously wrong paper featured credulously and with no caveats in the lead story in the Observer today (written by a political journalist) as well as the Telegraph and probably others. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/mar/28/boris-johnson-coronavirus-outbreak-will-get-worse
Actually, this is probably the worst example of the coverage of the wrong 5700 figure. What an utter shambles. https://twitter.com/Samfr/status/1244032964729724934?s=19
Striking that media figures cherry picking bad stats to say there's no problem or that we are overreacting, are climate change sceptics. Note that not all sceptics are doing this, but in future I hope people remember to ignore the risk judgements of these particular individuals
The thing that completely blows my mind here is that the people saying it's all overblown today have done so in large part because they were unable to distinguish two people and two models, just because those people work at the same university.
And despite having made this monumentally stupid error, this won't stop them continuing to churn out massively opinionated, massively overconfident, ideology led bullshit, week in, week out. And being paid to do so. This is insane.
And they will continue to do so on important future issues. Climate, significant political issues, the next pandemic. Whatever. They will never stop & they will never suffer any professional consequences for their litany of errors. In this instance, potentially fatal errors
Revisiting this thread. As I said, these people never suffer negative professional consequences for their bullshit. The person being referred to here still gets slots in TV, still has columns in the media. Despite being regularly, catastrophically wrong https://twitter.com/hugorifkind/status/1316720094769225730?s=19
