before fighting against the “model minority” label of asian americans, and before playing the “who’s been oppressed/discriminated more” card against POC, the asian-american community needs to acknowledge the racism within our homes.
we cannot ask for POC solidarity before recognizing the discrimination we hold against black & brown people, and even our very own: southeast asians. what the asian-american community is facing currently is not even comparable to what the black community has faced long before our
lifetime. instead of fighting each other on “who’s been oppressed more,” fight the racism that you & your family has been raised upon and project onto people that have a darker skin tone than you.
acknowledge that east asians discriminate on dark-skinned SEA just because we look & act different than our counterparts, before you attack other POC for not standing with us during these trying times.
ask yourself this: how can you ask for solidarity from other communities when you cannot even find solidarity within your own communities? how can you ask other POC to stand with you when your own community has participated in the same racist acts along with white people?
