The paper was purchased by Alfredo Escalera Maldonado, which the paper doesn't explain is the son of Alfredo Escalera Sr., one of the creators of the faux news outlet Noticias Xtra that is part of the media manipulation operation of the disgraced Rosselló administration.
The other co-creator of Noticias Xtra is radio host and producer Sixto George, who was involved in a scandal during summer 2019 when he arranged a friendly interview with then-embattled Rosselló, from which the bodyguard barred show cohost Mayra López Mulero.
Noticel's new editor in chief is Yennifer Álvarez Jaimes, who the paper's story carefully sidesteps mentioning was Ricardo Rosselló's press secretary and currently under investigation for the Telegram chat scandal that led to the popular uprising that removed Rosselló from power.
One of the elements of the uprising that removed Rosselló from power was that the chat demonstrated how he and his boys were buying favorable press coverage. And now they just literally bought one of Puerto Rico's most important newspapers. 
Noticel has also put out this image of its new opinion columnists. People are remarking mostly on two things:
