I took an 11.1 mile adventure through East Jackson on the Pearl River. Here’s a thread of the things i saw.
The river was gauged at 13’. There was a good current. The big sandbars were plentiful.
Great Blue Heron having breakfast at the sandbar.
Beautiful water snake getting some son
Of course we went snake wrangling
It’s not a party if the big boys aren’t there. We respected social distancing.
Another big boy that wasn’t tardy to the party.
Underneath Lakeland Drive
Ended the 11.1 mile trip with a view of the wild waters you’ll find right at Waterworks curve at I-55N.
Oh yeah,i linked up with the ‘Sons of Eastover’, a local biker GANG.
And remember...
Jackson is home to a wide variety of freshwater mussels. This one is a Yellow Sandshell.
Found this fella sunbathing today.
Here’s an American Coot and another hefty party animal!
Here is that *thing* that’s in the river on Lakeland Dr. i assume its a sort of boat/ship barrier or corral
Here is the backside of it.
Found a resident with 2 mega puppies enjoying a sandbar. Jackson has lots of fun beaches.
Found a juvenile Alligator Snapping turtle in the shallows here on the river today!
Found an injured Baby Owl about 20yds away from the river 😢
Here is a Marbled Salamander that was found under a moist/rotting log near the river.
Gray Treefrog 🐸 🌳
There are numerous Oxbow lakes and tributaries along the Pearl River below the Rez. Many have sections with CLEAR water
This is a Green Snake.
