recently a cfan analyzed the details of jongin in the eve so i translated it + added some thoughts
"so many details [of jongin's the eve performance] make me realize: jongin really is the main dancer & lives up to his status as the idol-approved king of the stage"
(++)
disclaimers:
ops words are in " "
im not a dancer! would love to hear people add in what they have to say about jongin's technique/form :)
i mention members to highlight what i see abt jongin, all of exo are good performers & i love them a lot

"when Jongin does the most signature double wave move: his legs don't start in the sumo squat-stance from the beginning, but rather starts pointing inward and then opens, perfectly with the beat of the music* and adds/demonstrates his sense of power"
+
*wanted to elaborate on this part! if you notice, the arm does not raise on the downbeat (on "hae"), but rather on the sixteenth note subdivision after the downbeat (listen to the percussion where * appears in the vid) +
jongin's legs start closed and open on the sixteenth note subdivision at the same time his arms go up.
to compare, sehun's legs start in the open, squat stance and so there is no additional body movement to accompany his arm going up
the little details give the dance a sense of urgency & make the wave seem that much more prolonged/fluid and goes along well w the music!! the sixteenth percussion appears often in the otherwise half time chorus, playing with the feeling of fast/slow is a cool thing in the eve :)
"this move where they extend the hand out three times appears many times, where his two feet pivot while on the balls of his feet"
jongin's weight is kept on the balls of his feet/his entire body weight is shifted forward which keeps him agile!!
“this series of three open-close leg movements as the body turns 180, his pivot point (left foot) maintains a fixed position, entirely not changing which makes his movements clean and without anything extraneous to muddy things"
+
and bc all of his weight is on his left (pivoting) foot, his right foot pulls back into his body to tap before moving out on the downbeat!
in comparison pcy/baek are having more issue w bringing their non-pivoting foot back bc they have weight on it.
"in this move jongin's lines are fluid yet continuous, from his leg to his hip to his chest to shoulders and extending to his arms, it all gives a sense of tension and cohesiveness to the move"
also wanted to mention how much air time he gets on that jump?
also fun fact the chest taps during this final chorus are to the beat of the sixteenth note percussion hits i was talking abt earlier with the knees opening with the wave! kinda a cool detail
"with every move+stage he has the same high precision, every move hits the spot cleanly. the details really make the dancer & demonstrate his skills. kai is god, no room for doubt!"
