Exposing the myth that Zinedine Zidane was inconsistent. A quick thread:
Note - This is about his prime years from 1996-2003.

His Juventus career:
1996/97 - Zizou led Juve to the Serie A and UCL final. He was named Serie A Foreign Footballer of the Year. In the UCL he was top assister and one of the best players in the competition (arguably the best). Top 3 in the Ballon d’Or. World class season.

1997/98 - Again, Zizou led Juve to the Serie A and UCL final. He was beaten to the Serie A Footballer of the Year award by peak R9. In the UCL he was top assister and one of the best players in the competition (arguably the best). World class season. Ballon d’Or winner.
1998/99 - Lippi leaving, Del Piero’s injury and Zidane struggling with recurring knee problems led to a poor season. https://amp.theguardian.com/football/1999/apr/13/newsstory.sport6
1999/00 - Most underrated & arguably best individual season of Zidane’s career performance wise. With ADP not hitting his best levels ZZ took more of the burden, he nearly led a poor Juve side to the title. Won FIFA World POTY and robbed of the Ballon d’Or. World class season.
2000/01 - Zizou put up another world class season and was voted Serie A Footballer of the Year.
He dropped this masterclass in the title deciding game only for Van Der Sar to horrifically cost Juve...

His Real Madrid career:
2001/02 - Zizou led Madrid to UCL triumph, he was MOTM in the final and named UEFA Footballer of the Year. He also won the La Liga Best Player of the Year award. World class season. (1/2)

At the 2002 World Cup Zidane was injured and France got knocked out in the group stages. He could’ve very possibly won the Ballon d’Or again that year if not for that injury. (2/2)
2002/03 - Zizou led Madrid to La Liga. In the UCL he was again top assister and one of the best players in the competition. Zidane was named FIFA World Player of the Year for a record third time. Another world class season. Best player in the world.
For context, during Zidane’s 5 years in Italy he was nominated for Serie A Footballer of the Year 4 times. He was also named the La Liga Player of the Decade. Don’t come at me with this inconsistent nonsense...
Zidane’s UCL career is elite and underrated. 14 goals and 31 assists in 80 games is very impressive for a midfielder, even more so when you realise that he has 20 G/A in 25 games in the quarters, semis and final. In 2011 he was named the Best UCL Player of the past 20 years.
