The english calendar we use is called as Gregorian Calendar. it is named after Pope Gregory XIII who introduced it

The Roman Calendar which was used earlier had infact just 10 months with only 304 days

But our Hindu calendar has 12 months with starting month as Chaitra

Hindu calendar is so accurate that it can tell you the time of lunar eclipse that would happen 1000 years from now. Hence the real new year starts from Chaitra

The specialty of Hindu New Year is that it starts with the sunrise whereas the english New Year starts at mid-night

Today, a majority of urban youth is not at all familiar about the existence of calendars in Indian tradition

1 January is the only new year day that most know of, because it is the only thing that they are introduced to in their schools and even in their own families

Post-Independence #Congress was least bothered about the maintenance of the cultural knowledge traditions

They see Indian culture as ‘communal’ & discourage it

Therefore, there is no mention of Indian calendars in the educational curricula catering to Indian students
