A MINI THREAD

so for my latin class i’ve been translating virgil’s aeneid. throughout the whole translation, there have been a couple beautiful lines that have really stuck out to me; one of these lines being, “forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit.”
translated, it means something along the lines of, “perhaps one day it will please us to remember even these things,” these things being shipwrecked by juno and overall being screwed over by many divine forces for petty reasons. i think it’s a line we can all relate to somehow.
while the context after aeneas’ speech basically states he hid his true sadness saying this (as most of us do during tough times), i think it shows us how strong our human resolve can and should be. given the current (admittedly very tough) situation that we face,
a good majority of us is struggling to find some solace in all of this. will we all remember these events fondly? i doubt it. but what can we learn? through these trials, we should seek to remember the advancements that we make both as individuals and as a community.
i can’t overstate this enough: i love y’all. i genuinely and honestly want the best for everyone on this platform and cannot say that enough. the bonds we form as a whole, the care we give to each other in this crisis, THOSE are the fondness that we will remember –
this is a growing experience for us all; it is the human experience of compassion. this line, “forsan et haec olim meminisse iuvabit,” can lead us all to remember this human compassion fondly through these challenging events.
anyways that’s my (not-so-mini) thread. i’m praying for y’all and i hope we remember the bonds we form.
