I have an absurd number of free shirts I’ve picked up over the years. Since I’m working from home, it seems like it’s time to rotate through them all. Will my work-from-home status end before I run out of shirts? Let’s find out.
Day 1: DTE Energy Care Corps
The Care Corps was the DTE Energy volunteer group. I believe they are known as the Care Force now.
As a summer student (and then former summer student), I volunteered for a few events, including the Monroe County Fair and Relay for Life.

Day 2: Michigan State University Graduate Student Life & Wellness
I got this shirt during grad school at a seminar on procrastination given by Jorge Cham, creator of PHD Comics.
It finally stopped raining, so I went on a walk around the block today. It was nice.

Day 3: Michigan State (from MSU Federal Credit Union)
Do you know how many free shirts I got while at MSU? A lot. It was a lot. This is just one of many.
The lovely orange wall is my background for video conferences.

Day 4: Adrian College Chemistry Demonstration Show
Pi Rho Maniac. Pyro Maniac. Get it?
Anyways, this shirt is from my first AC Chem Demo Show. We linked our demos to movie scenes and soundtracks.
(Did I mention that that shirt glows in the dark?)

Day 5: Oakland University
This shirt comes from my sister, who went to college at Oakland University, home of the Golden Grizzlies. #WearTheBear
My sister is pretty cool. But don’t tell her I said that.

Day 6: “I declared” from Adrian College
I started college with an undecided major. AC had a Declaration Day for students to make their major official. Even though I knew I was going with chemistry, I waited to declare my major to get this shirt.
Like a proper college student.

Day 7: PAN (Physics of Atomic Nuclei)
This shirt was from volunteering for PAN, a summer program for teachers and high school students interested in nuclear science. The Michigan State version is sponsored by the @NSCL and @jina_cee.

Day 8: Michigan State (from MSU Federal Credit Union)
Oh look, another MSU/MSUFCU shirt! I think I got this at a football game? I don’t even know.

Day 9: Energize Your Life! (DTE Energy)
EYL is the health and wellness program at DTE Energy, my former employer and the place that currently employs, like, half my family.
Check out my muscles.

Day 10: Slam Duck (MSU Social Norms)
I have a whole series of these duck shirts with survey answers about MSU students’ drinking habits.
I really want to know why there’s a “missing duck” in the front row.

Day 11: Designated Duck (MSU Social Norms)
“84% of MSU students use a designated driver to get home safe and sound.”
Do I need to be concerned about the 16%, or are they walking?

Day 12: Keep Things Ducky (MSU Social Norms)
Squirrels are devious little stealers. The ones at MSU were absolutely fearless. And the ones at my house will not stay off my bird feeder.

Day 13: Keeping count is instrumental (MSU Social Norms)
This is my favorite duck shirt-yes, because of the band ducks.

“9 out of 10 MSU students disapprove of drinking to the point of passing out.”
Yikes to that 1 out of 10.

Day 15: Fall Welcome 2012 (MSU Social Norms)
OK, so technically I went into the lab this morning (thanks power outage!), but I still worked mostly from home. So it counts.

Day 16: Lucky Ducks (MSU Social Norms)
I thought about posing with a Guinness, but that would probably violate the spirit of these shirts...

Day 18: Duck, Duck, Goosebumps (MSU Social Norms)
This is (maybe) my last duck shirt! My phone was so upset that it decided to totally die yesterday, so I’m posting this a day late.

Day 19: Eaton Rapids Track and Field
This shirt may not have been free- Rich was coaching middle school track at the time, and he probably paid for it, but I didn’t!
Go Greyhounds!

Day 20: Graduate Employees Union at Michigan State University
Shout out to all the work done by the GEU in securing financial and professional benefits for MSU grad students!
Seriously, that low-deductible healthcare plan was the bomb.

Day 21: Alpha Chi Sigma
This is a professional fraternity for chemistry. I joined the MSU chapter as a pseudo-advisor while I was in grad school.

Day 22: Darwin Discovery Day 2015 (Michigan State University Museum)
I volunteered for this event and talked about plant defense mechanisms (aka the “thorns” part of the shirt).
To celebrate Earth Day today, I went on a walk and picked up litter.

Day 23: DTE Energy- Fermi 2
This shirt is from the reactor’s 15th refueling outage. During these outages, around 1/3 of the fuel is replaced and other maintenance is performed.
They are currently undergoing their 20th refueling outage!

Day 24: Sibs and Kids Weekend (Adrian College)
(A delayed post for Friday.)
TThere’s weekends were great, because my sister and cousin would come up for a “college” experience, which mostly meant movies in auditoriums and eating in the dining hall.
