Daily reminder that saying that women furries should be respected because we make most of the content can be well-meaning, but also reinforces the notion that our validity in the subculture is based on a perceived & #39;value& #39; on providing content for mostly white men. Try harder.
Maybe I want a cute dog icon and to hang out with friends whilst being a Marxist feminist killjoy online. That& #39;s great, but whenever the topic of women in the furry subculture comes up, it almost always boils down to & #39;respect women because they& #39;re the content makers.& #39; Like...okay
An experience and subculture as broad as & #39;interest in anthro animals& #39; will have varying degrees of participation and enjoyment, that can be acknowledged ALONGSIDE the fact that the subculture generally relies on women to sustain itself and maybe that& #39;s not always a good thing.
Sure, it& #39;s great (coming from the gender history gal here) that women have played such a huge and influential role in making and shaping such a weird and interesting subculture that I dabble with sometimes. Yet, it& #39;s just...let us just be weird animals online, that is enough.
