SUSTAINABILITY

DAY 1: Apart from eating #organic, its important to eat #local. I support an organic farming village near BOM, my friends & I make sure we buy only from the farmer who travels 6hrs every week to deliver grains/oils/masalas

DAY 2: The best part is that all the #organic grains, cold pressed oils ( #reusable glass bottles), stone ground attas, etc, come in #wastefree #packaging which we return every week!

I rarely shop from supermarkets 😊

DAY 3: This farmer is amazing! Got himself a Govt license so that he can fulfill our orders and sustain his village economically. He had a minor hiccup along the way, but fortune favours the bold!

DAY 4: About 5 years ago, I started becoming conscious about personal + household consumption & waste patterns, and started buying bulk food grains from wholesalers in large containers that I would send from home, to reduce packaging waste

DAY 5: I started to explore how traditional ways of packaging (metal/glass, reusable/returnable dabbas), can be used in FMCG with the help of technology. I designed reusable containers, that can replace plastics & mitigate waste altogether

I also dabbled with Banana leaf based straws, I started training a group of low income household women in hygiene & technique to make these eco friendly straws, which generated a huge demand from the hospitality business. Named it STRAWNG
DAY 7: Lockdown extended, so I have time to catch up on this thread:)

We made and distributed these banana leaf straws to the local sellers, who were struggling post #plasticban in Mumbai, & Paper Straws are NOT sustainable either!

Willing to train any group anytime!

DAY 8:

NO packaged food, unless absolutely necessary.
I found these amazing Mitti bottles on a trip to Jaipur. Of course it broke soon, so I carry a Steel bottle of water with me everywhere, even on flight.
Always in my bag: Steel Straw & Steel Spoon
DAY 8: How to buy sustainably!
I already told you about fruits, vegetables, grains, oils etc, buy from a local farmer (look online, on SM groups).

But next, localise your Home Care products too. Buy made in #INDIA , soapnut & other natural ingredient based products.
Home Care product examples in the picture above, there are many more brands available online. Try to buy from their own websites. Support local, Indian companies!
