🌱 plants in the time of covid: a thread where i can maybe hopefully be useful

how to keep green onions + other bulbed/stem greens for longer. stems/bulbs in water. change water every 3 days. plastic cover keeps moisture in.
don’t be me and let the leaves soak in the water, i was in a rush because i was winded for the 14th time today.

i’m making this thread to distract myself from crying!! yee fucking haw!! stay tuned for more/taking requests.
tomorrow i will demonstrate how to regrow onions, lettuce, spinach and bell peppers w/o refrigeration.

you can find all this info elsewhere and probably in better detail on some vegan girl’s insta or urban farmer’s youtube but you’re here and what the fuck else do i have to do?
i don’t know what day it is anymore so legally i’m not late in posting this. anyway, let’s get started..
stemmed onions, green onions, chives etc - if you want them to keep growing w/o soil they will happily live in water next to the window like this, you just trim as needed.

put onion bulbs in a wide mouth jar so you can take them out later (made that mistake last year)
if you’re like me and full of shame that your produce already looks withered, you can still use the ends and then chop up the leafy bits for compost (mix w leaves water + dirt. do NOT put meat or eggs in compost)

you can do this with a small lidded can inside too. stir weekly.
green onions in dirt: make sure that at least half an inch of the bulb is buried. easy peasy.
lettuce, bok choy, spinach, celery - make sure the entire bottom part of the stem is buried. great.
