WHAT DO WE WANT?

Expedited development and deployment of #COVID19 therapeutics using sound and proven clinical study design practices to ensure safety and efficacy!

WHEN DO WE WANT IT?

When the science demonstrates the benefit of use outweighs the risk of harm!
It appears we’re now stuck in a situation where political / culture war lines are hardening over the interpretation, by #armchairepidemiology aficionados, of the results of an initial small sample study of an off-label use of an anti-malarial drug to treat corona patients.
This is silly. Please let the doctors work unmolested by the ravings of us Twitter randos.

Do a little searching and strategic following of real experts. You’ll find there are many promising treatments in play (quite amazing for a disease that emerged in the last few months)
This stuff takes time. They need to make sure it really works based on full scale, unbiased statistically valid studies. They also need to make sure the drug is not more harmful than the disease (both today and down the road).
Ideally we should be rooting for lots of these to be successful.

Maybe it’s because sports are cancelled, but we seem to be forming teams about one of them.

If you need to pick a favorite, fine. Knock yourself out.
Just don’t do the Twitter equivalent of running on the field. You look like an idiot and waste everyone’s time.

(From a concerned fellow Twitter rando with zero credentials to speak about the details, timeline and science of drug development)
P.S. don’t ever self-medicate based on something you saw on tv or Twitter. The tragedy with the couple drinking aquarium chemicals seems like an obvious lack of judgment. However, there are many ideas that ‘seem’ more safe that can harm or kill you.
