I'm steamed. I work for a First Nation that’s basically locked down for COVID, and we are getting *flooded* with referrals from government & industry, about resource extraction & land alienation.

Even in a goddamn pandemic, the colonial system can’t put the brakes on.
If you are the bureaucrat or ministry or industry dude who issued a referral in the last week like it’s business as usual, asking a First Nation to comment within 30 days on a resource decision, I honestly don’t understand what reality you’re in.

Do better. Stand tf down.
There is no pause or respite for indigenous peoples, ever.
We’re under not one but *two* states of emergency (BC and Kamloops) and our community staff are either at home isolated or seconded to emergency response, providing food, meds, and services to people who need it.

Getting your pipeline/fenceline/mine/logs IS NOT AN EMERGENCY.
not for the first time this week,
I’m too pissed about this to be eloquent rn, but listen: it was under circumstances of extreme community stress, brought on by waves of disease, that colonial BC stole all the land and relegated Indigenous peoples to reserves.

This kind of shit cuts DEEP.
thread to come when I calm tf down
