Should we start a thread where each person tells a story of how we got scammed or scummed by someone or something in poker?
I will start off by telling the story of how I got scummed by the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. It was summer of 2016. I was a producer for the show Poker Night in America. We were about to film a show at the Golden Nugget w Hellmuth, Antonio, Tilly, etc.
Some of the players brought Aria chips, but we needed to convert them to Golden Nugget chips for the televised cash game. I collected the chips, 4 25k chips, 3 1k chips, for a total of 103k. I handed them to the floor person in charge. She counted them out & left for the cage.
20 mins later I got a phone call with her telling me she only has 78k in chips. She knows I gave her 103k, but now has 78k. I can see she is in full panic mode, but at the same time being super professional.
I immediately call over to the Aria to put them on alert for anyone trying to cash a $25k chip. These things are not a dime a dozen in Vegas and they are not easy to cash at the cage. The Golden Nugget informs me surveillance is on top of it and will get back to me.
3 hours later while we are filming the tv show, a higher up from security finds me and tells me that they can see on surveillance the floor person dropped the 25k chip right as she got the cage. And even better, they have a picture of the guy who picked it up off the floor.
Later on that night I am at dinner with @WOCPoker at some restaurant in the casino. The Poker Room Manager along with the VP of Gaming Operations come sit down at my table and say we gotta talk. The gist of it was they asked me to keep it quiet and give them 3 days to handle it.
The VP reaffirmed what the security guys said: that they can see on camera the floorperson dropping the chip and some other guy picking it up. He said the man is noticeably distinguishable and is wearing a LSU shirt. He said they have security staked out at the Aria cage.
3 days go by. Nothing! The next morning I get a call from the same VP of Gaming who showed up at dinner, but this time he tells me there is no evidence of a chip transaction between me & the floorperson, & no evidence she dropped any chip. BTW, this is real life!
A friend who worked for Golden Nugget at the time gave me call on his own and let me know that the casino was required to keep the surveillance footage for a few days but would get rid of it as soon as legal to do so. He advised I go to the Nevada Gaming Control Board that day.
Went to Nevada Gaming and had them enforce the Nugget to preserve the footage from that day. But Nevada Gaming was of no help to get my money back, saying that this incident is not a legal issue, (they did nothing illegal), but it is a civil issue and I need to get a lawyer.
After the 3rd lawyer telling me the same thing, I gave up. No lawyer wants to take on any big casino for $25k for two reasons. One, it's not enough to be worth it for them. Two, they dont want to risk future business from casino companies. Nice world.
Anyway, it was pretty much a dead end and I got royally scummed by the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. Fortunately for me, I worked for an honorable company at Poker Night in America and a year later, Poker Night and its owner reimbursed me for the $25k!
That's my story...
