Look, it's a pandemic--

There's a logical way to go about shopping for food and other essentials and there's a careless way.

Here's a helpful thread on keeping you and the hardworking people who are keeping the shelves stocked safe. 1/
Start clean. Before you leave your house, wash your hands, then wipe down all contact surfaces in your car before driving. This will lessen the risk of you potentially bringing any contagion into the supermarket. 2/
If you have gloves, wear them. Cover your face with a mask, bandanna or scarf. Bring hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes with you. 3/
Have a list of everything you need. Remember that you have one agenda: stocking up on things you need. This is not the time for idle shopping. Go in focused, get what you need, and get out. 4/
Go alone, but if you have to bring kids, keep them close to you at all times. Children who roam want to touch things, and free-range children won't necessarily understand the danger or need to keep a distance from others. 5/
Shop with your eyes! Touch only the items you intend to buy. Now is not the time for leisurely comparison shopping. The more merchandise you handle, the more potential vectors for infection you create. Don't do it. 6/
Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t park your cart in the center of aisles. Don’t crowd other shoppers. Practice social distancing and make it easier for others to do so as well. If you need help from a clerk, ask from six feet away. 7/
When checking out, use a self-serve checkout if possible. If you use a manned register, keep to the six-foot rule. Wipe down any surface: touchscreen, scanner, and credit card keypad/reader. If you can use touch-free pay methods with your smartphone do so. 8/
Put all purchases in the trunk of your car, then use hand sanitizer or wipes on your hands before getting into the car. Cleaning your hands every time you prepare to enter a new area can potentially break the chain of contamination. 9/
