I never thought I& #39;d build my own PC, and I know there are a lot of people, especially in the FGC, that want to build one but may be a little reserved. I& #39;ve decided to keep an ongoing thread of things I& #39;m learning, decisions I& #39;ve made, helpful vids etc. Journey w/ #CarbonClyve
I am now watching this vid about choosing computer parts for like the 3rd time. Its so good and very informative. Thank you @bitwitkyle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiVWQthb-20&t=361s">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
In this vid, @bitwitkyle is building for a friend with a specific budget in mind, but seeing the search and thought process IN REAL TIME has been helpful. I& #39;ve been searching along w/ the vid, especially because Im taking a similar route https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqRHFXJMZ7c">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
An amazing guide on how to actually put your computer components together. It& #39;s definitely less intimidating now that I& #39;ve watched this vid by @Tech_Source_Ed. Definitely recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO-V8E9MIBg">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
I like this vid because it makes the argument for building your own PC without making you feel like an idiot for purchasing a pre-built one. There& #39;s an argument for both sides. Its also very detailed and done in real time https://youtu.be/P19r1LSNsiU ">https://youtu.be/P19r1LSNs...
Ok I& #39;ve ordered all my PC components. I definitely weny WAAAAAY over budget, but I consider it an investment since I won& #39;t be ordering anymore consoles
I am now on the market for the following:
1) Monitors
2) Webcam
3) Keyboard
4) Mouse

I found this video super informative regarding what type of monitor I should spring for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH28Pp83xDc">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
Here are my PC parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ ">https://pcpartpicker.com/list/&quo...
Few things I want to say: First, it helps to decide what you want your PC to do. My list is pretty pricey because it is designed to replace my consoles for the foreseeable future (though not guaranteed lol)

I also wanted a setup that could not only handle gaming, but streaming and content creation as well. I probably could& #39;ve brought down the costs in many areas, but I prefer to invest upfront. Again, the choice is really yours, which is really refreshing
Also, budget for accessories. One thing I didn& #39;t prepare for was the cost of everything else- monitors, keyboard, software etc etc. Many of the "build" videos on YouTube completely leave these items out. Im blessed that I was able to cover them- not everyone will be able to
I went with this monitor. Now I originally wanted 1 24in and 1 27in, but I managed to snag this while it was on sale so I got 2. In hindsight its probably a little big for the space Im working with, but y& #39;all know I will find a way to adjust lol https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824475003?Item=N82E16824475003">https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E168...
Now let me share my experience with putting the PC together ( a mess lol)
My biggest mistake was watching all the pros put their PC together and expecting every step to occur the way I saw it in the video. All my components are similar in function, but certain parts of the PC changed the way I did things
For example, my motherboard was a grade above all the vids I watched (X570 vs B450). To experienced builders, thats not a big deal. For me, it was hella confusing because areas were labeled slightly differently than what I was use to seeing at that point
Another example: my CPU came with a stock cooler which is installed differently from what I saw
https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="🤦♂️" title="Man facepalming" aria-label="Emoji: Man facepalming"> The video I watched was an older cooler. The difference? The older required removal of 2 brackets on the motherboard- the new one didnt. Not a big deal, but to me at the moment?
Mind you, I had already removed the damn brackets, which is what caused me to freak out lol
The case and power supply, which again were different from what I& #39;ve been watching, also had functions of its own, that added to my confusion. I ended up referencing multiple videos just to make sense of what I was doing.
I think it would be better to understand what needs to go into your build, then look at your components and sorta outline what has to be done, instead of focusing on getting everything in there.
Here& #39;s a mini thread of me building the damn rig lol https://twitter.com/clyveSPEAKS/status/1249382528139624448?s=20">https://twitter.com/clyveSPEA...
Overall, I made it through. A big HUGE thank you to the following people: @MunkeeSpanka @Shotty2urbody92 @SabinDeus and Danny ( #SquadZero). I literally could not have done it without yall!!!!!!!!
I hope this thread helps people that have been thinking of going down the PC route. Its absolutely doable and in hindsight Im just glad I did it. There& #39;s no better feeling that putting something together with your own hands. I feel powerful lol
