Financial Times and Wall Street Journal within hours of each other have reports Facebook ‘knew for years’ about key metrics issue. Docs name COO Sandberg and CFO Wehner. Here is FT: https://www.ft.com/content/6fc9fda0-f801-4a56-b007-430ceaedc379
Here is Wall Street Journal. “‘My question lately is: How long can we get away with the reach overestimation?’ one employee wrote, according to the Thursday filing.” https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebook-accused-in-amended-lawsuit-of-knowing-ad-audiences-were-inflated-11584745492

Update: Facebook working overtime to keep discovery sealed in lawsuit
regarding inflated reach metrics which FT's @MsHannahMurphy and WSJ's @JeffHorwitz previously reported on. Looks like plaintiffs filed today in response with some very strong claims regarding the documents...

Full disclosure, we filed yesterday supporting these docs shouldn’t be sealed due to public interest in case, implications to trust in digital ads, claims of fraud, fake accounts, etc. Cite Parliament report labeling of Facebook as “digital gangsters” among other reports.
also, I should disclose this tweet went viral in Fall 2017 which seemed to put the issue on the map. Of course, the press have uncovered a lot more issues in the last three years. Disappointing. https://twitter.com/jason_kint/status/905237289588199425?s=20

more docs just posted in Facebook's faulty reach metrics case. More
from previous reports.
Docs are heavily redacted (DCN has requested they be unsealed) but provide tantalizing clues. Plaintiff's letter references "single most relevant" evidence in Apr 2018? (update 1/4)

I find that month interesting as I had previously called attention to fake accounts and metrics issues in 2017. But Facebook CEO Zucka was called to testify to Congress in April 2018 so public scrutiny turned up significantly. Docs read as if they made a code change. (update 2/4)
There are also many references to SUMA (Single User Multiple Accounts?) as if Facebook was aware they were double counting users. Since FB's biz model is built on precision user identity and microtargeted ads, any cover-up of known inaccuracies would be concerning. (update 3/4)
This is just another suit but in area of integrity of their entire unaudited platform where they've had prior issues. Any discovery/interrogation which may expose more evidence that Facebook is a dishonest broker should make them very uncomfortable.
