Allow me to tell a story. My father is a down home good ol’ country boy. Farmer, redneck, hard worker. He has always shown himself as a conservative Republican, albeit somewhat moderate. Moderate being that he doesn’t discriminate against others, LGBTQ, in particular. 1/
Nevertheless, he has always veered right in his ideology. Government needs to stay the hell out of things, [EPA] regulations just hurt our economy, tax cuts galore, and all that jazz. I mention EPA because we are from coal country. He worked in coal for 30+ years. 2/
Never assume for one second that he is lacking in neither brains nor sense. If he has all the pieces in front of him, he can put a puzzle together very quickly. That said, he has had a very myopic view on information in the larger world. 3/
Until very recently when he got himself Internet and an iPad. I truly believe he has seen the world for all it is now. He does not get swayed by propaganda and fear mongering. Instead, he tries to see all sides and make a common sense decision on things. 4/
I, for one, am completely shocked at how his views have turned completely about face. He is no longer a moderate conservative. In the larger scope, he could be seen as a radical progressive. Far left. I’m talking him taking the exit to Massachusetts....5/
And getting off in Denmark. But he is not a far left radical liberal progressive. He is still that down home country boy. Whilst his perspective has changed, his views have not. I have listened to furious diatribes from him as of late on all this bullshit. 6/
He knows Trump has brainwashed people. He knows the business bigwigs don’t give a flying fuck about the people that got them there. He knows our outsourcing has left us without the means to handle things ourselves. He knows the politics of lying to further your own agenda. 7/
I still consider him to be a moderate conservative. But the plain fact that those views are now seen as radical liberalism shows how far our morality has skewed on a whole. He has not changed. The world did. Only now has he finally realized it. 8/
I only wish that the rest of us get released from our myopic view of the world to open our eyes. Because if my stubborn redneck father can do it, I hope the rest of us will.
