Going to start a pottering/crafting/gardening thread...
I tidied up my shed this week and set up the garden table as a little potting spot. First round of seeds going in today - courgette, spring onion, radish and beetroot
I'm popping back out in a bit to do the tomatoes, lettuce, parsley, chives, fritillary and cosmos
Last night I did an impromptu craft tutorial for @nailheadparty while I chucked together this holder for my pin badges. He's decided I need a YouTube channel where I can thrust things toward my laptop webcam with enthusiasm
[food] Monday morning is Fancy Porridge Morning. Today is chocolate spread and peanut butter, because
Hello from my new home office. I decided my colleagues might get bored with my magnolia backdrop so I framed this sheep breeds poster, for education as well as entertainment. Plants include tarantula fern, moss balls, string of pearls and miniature jasmine
Office now installed with fairy lights, and today is onesie day because gosh it's all rather a lot isn't it. That mug was a present from my dad by the way because he's a FUNNY MAN (tbf he is a funny man)
[food] Damn right I'm having apple and raspberry crumble for breakfast
I've brought my blanket square remnant blanket project out of hibernation from three years ago because I need to feel little wins in the scheme of a larger project
Important germination update! Salad leaves, little gem and one solitary radish have popped through!
Overnight/early this morning, half a dozen more radishes, eight courgettes, a couple of spinaches and some more gems and leaves popped through. I was so surprised to see them I exclaimed "oh hello!" like they were unexpected guests. So lovely to see something happening already
If this goes well I'm going to have seedlings to offload, because I can't bring myself to kill off the ones I don't need but from experience I can tell you one human doesn't need more than one courgette plant (maybe two, staggered)
Who wants to see some teeny plants?
Oh it chopped the start off: here's radishes and courgettes
THEY GROW UP SO FAST
Spinach is getting exciting. Big radish here has reached the top of the cloche.
Social Distancing Day 16ish: I just knit batshit hats out of batshit handspun yarn and match them to my jumpers and eye makeup now.
O ho who is this I spied whilst doing the washing up? A tiny beetroot!
Monday is Fancy Porridge Day. This week we have: actual (UHT) milk instead of water, cinnamon, chopped pecans and the last of the maple syrup @SealyMacWheely brought back from Canada 🍁
Struggling a bit today, so I'm spending a bit of time sitting on the floor in the front garden, after a spin on the field and around the block
We have a nice little time
I'm cracking out the sewing machine this week.
No more saving things for best
Yeah cheers mate it's not like I was about to do some particularly fiddly topstitching or owt
Brain's at the level of frazzled that I carefully selected a pair of buttons to sew on to the dress, put them down, tidied up and now can't find said buttons
Et voila. (Pattern: Tilly and the Buttons Cleo / Fabric: from somewhere in Nashville)
Watching my courgettes sprout is legitimately one of the most exciting things in my days right now. Look at the progress this middle one made just between 10am and 6pm. You go, friend!
[food] This was dinner (prior to being zapped), and I have no regrets.
A morning of minor annoyances.
1) Found the buttons I'd misplaced, *after* fishing out slightly inferior alternatives yesterday
2) Somehow melted a sweet potato?!
Your girl's found the self-timer. But not the skills to take a decent photo of today's dress (Pattern: Deer & Doe Arum/ Fabric: something lineny and creasy af) Pocket to be added, after I've had a bash at embroidering something nice and simple on it)
My embroidery skills are rudimentary at best but I think this'll look pretty cute once I've attached it to the dress
[food] The Sourdough Twat has logged on
[food] Tea and toast before bed, with gooseberry and elderflower jam made by @wibberoo 💚
Not wanting to be That Guy but today's Yoga With Adriene is focused on vulnerability and the timing could not be better for me and it involved minimal physical effort. If that's your bag you might get a lot out of it too x
Preparing for cleaning my table and chairs up and who rocks up but THIS FILTHY ANIMAL where have you BEEN?!
BLACK BRIGHT
I like pink now apparently
Time for the latest installation of Smith Being Excited About Plants
This sewing brings me no joy
Just over an hour to knock up five of these masks, need to make and attach ties next
This is the pattern I'm using (except doing three seams at Step 2 - turning inside out and top-stitching the hole closed - because even in These Trying Times, half-decent finishing is important): https://about.kaiserpermanente.org/content/dam/internet/kp/comms/import/uploads/2020/03/02_COVID_Mask-Instructions_v9.pdf
I've brought the babies out for some sunshine. Tomorrow I might chop down the massive conifer blocking all the light to my kitchen
Also drying my new summery sweater in the light and breeze 🧶🍃☀
Lovely @itsdaneesaur made me a gorgeous macrame plant hanger! 😍
I've teak oiled my garden furniture, pressure washed everything in sight (mainly paths and patio), washed my front door, trimmed these horrible hedges and tidied my roses. All to avoid watching Star Wars Episode II.
Hmm. That's...sore.
[food] Made potato cakes from leftover mash, eating outside for the first time in this house, on the newly revamped furniture I found in the shed ☀️ Easter is normally family visiting time and I'm missing home, but Mum and I gave each other tours of our gardens 💚
Last year was a particularly lovely time
Gonna have to try to pick up an Easter egg when I venture to the shops on Tuesday because I have long enjoyed a novelty-shaped chocolate product
Just came in and spotted a note poking through my letterbox.

I'm having a bit of a cry. So lovely.
It's a very '...Idle Hands' kind of evening. Time to start renovating this little footstool.
Can't find my box of big staples. Project is on pause.
