2009 flu pandemic — United States — H1N1 Swine Flu

The earliest reported cases of H1N1 influenza in the US began appearing in late March 2009, in California spreading to infect people in Texas, New York, and assorted other states by mid-April.
CNN reported in October 2009:
"Since the H1N1 flu pandemic began in April, millions of people in the United States have been infected, at least 20,000 have been hospitalized and more than 1,000 have died"

October 24, 2009
Obama declared Swine Flu a national emergency in the US.
CDC estimated 61 million people were infected in the US and caused 12,469 deaths.

Worldwide, up to 575,400 people died
