Hi there! I have gotten a lot of new followers this week from being featured by Twitter. I just wanted to say a few things about that.
For those of you who haven't seen it, it was for food storage. Here it is https://twitter.com/i/events/1241003241736769537
I wanted to say a bit on my philosophy around food.
Food is the most political thing you do every day!
Food is the most political thing you do every day!
You gotta eat. You have to make choices about the foods you eat. Your economic status and location greatly affects what choices you have available to you.
You might live near farms. You might live in CA that produces 40% of the food for the US. You might live in a food desert.

Your station in life is a huge part of this. We vote with our wallets even when we don't think we are.
That is why every aspect of food is political. So if you are newly following me and telling me to stick to food and shuttup about politics, you don't know the first thing about how this all works.
This my friend is privilege.

You can unfollow me. I still want to help you cook and eat well, so I hope you will stick around.
If you are one of the many telling me to shut up on politics, I am hoping you will stick around to learn what our food system is all about.

Your food choices affect how your food is grown, treated, transported, sold, cooked, and more.
It affects how we treat our soil, what chemicals we use or do not, is the water polluted, what are the energy sources, how farm workers are treated, etc.
It is all connected.

On a larger scale, your vote affects farmers in general. Look at how tariffs damaged the medium to small soybean farmers.
Those bailout (socialism by the way) from Trump will not do anything.
It took many farmers DECADES to build those relationships.

Only big farms are going to survive that. We have seen a huge increase in farm bankruptcies as a result.
We must protect our food system.
We must protect our food system.
I think we can all see through the #COVID19 shituation that our systems are much more fragile than we think.
We must do what we can to build a robust food system that supports our farmers - like decreasing farmer suicides - maintains the health of our planet, and feeds everyone

Right now, America throws away 40% of the food grown. The bulk of this is due to ugly produce (we want those pretty apples sold at Whole Foods), some due to transportation loss (buy local), and stuff we just throw out as consumers.
We can do better.
We can do better.
For these reasons and more, I will continue to fight for progress and liberal ideas around food that lift up our farmers, support the undocumented people who pick our produce (6 in 10 farm workers are here illegally), and things that protect our planet for generations to come.
You can disagree with me.
You can hate what I say.
You can think I am a libtard, snowflake, that I have TDF, or whatever other name you give it.
It is your right to be a dickswab about this.

But I am never, ever, EVER going to stop fighting for those things.
Food is community. That's why I am here.
