I’ve decided that there’s no time more appropriate for me to make the cloak I’ve always dreamed of. It will be purple, the hood lined with rainbow. I’ve got some cool trim to put around the edges (pictured) and I’m going to design a knotwork for the back in those colours
I have most of the materials already and a pattern to make it from. As much as I’d love full length, I don’t think that would be practical with a wheelchair
I need a little bit more purple fleece, which is on its way, and then I can get cutting and sewing :D
Omg I realised something wonderful. I can have all the pockets!!! (Including a secret pocket or two :D)
This is for the back of the cloak and maybe for the sides of the hood. I used the colours from the trim I ordered (see further up thread) and tried to have some of the loopy ness of that in the patterns too
Hood lining is here :D I would line the whole thing with rainbow but ££££

I have decided I’m going to make my cloak on cold/wet days. On sunny days I am using my limited energy to go out into the garden.
Omg 😁😁
This for the back of the cloak and it turned out awesome :D
Im going to be sewing this onto the fleece fabric of the cloak. I can’t really just go around the edge as it’s massive so I think I’ll need to stitch the outlines of the star too? So it sits nicely. Any tips appreciated
Going to cut out the main pattern pieces today. I had to iron the pattern because it was so crumpled so I’m taking a break before getting the scissors out
Pinned all the pattern pieces and now need a break because POTS and kneeling do not get on well
Uh oh the hood lining fabric sheds.... a lot
Ive been thinking about how to fasten the cloak. I’ve decided that when @ZapCreatives are back at work, I’m going to get buttons printed of this design (maybe simplified) https://twitter.com/doodlebeth/status/1241776846351618048?s=21 https://twitter.com/doodlebeth/status/1241776846351618048
I am going tac the knotwork fabric onto the main fleece with spray fabric glue stuff. Then I’ll stitch round the edge and along some of the lines of the star.
I can’t find the navy blue thread anywhere 😭😭😭
Ok, so I will just practice with my walking foot for my machine as I’ve not used it before. It’s magical!! So flat. I love it!!!
Hood!
I love this rainbow fabric but sewing it was awful so I’m glad I’m not lining the whole thing with it or is probably cry
I’m making a half length cloak because full length in a wheelchair just seems like it would be difficult. I am wondering about having a button in extension to it so that it can walk more I can wear it long. I think it would look cool layered
I’m designing the pockets now. It’s going to have lots of pockets to keep my phone, money, magical spells, amulets, kittens etc in 😁
Exciting progress today
Tomorrow I will cut out the lining. After that is pockets and then the final assembly. Hopefully should have it done in a week :D
Pocketsesesses :D this is the inside of the cloak. The pockets are lined with rainbows but no one will ever see them but me.
I’m going to do the same for the other side but not today because I’ve done too much already
Molly is making sure I don’t do any more sewing by sitting on the fabric pile
Progress :D it’s all assembled now, lots of finishing up to do another day when my hands will let me use scissors
It’s reassuringly heavy, I expect it’s pretty warm.... just in time for the warm weather
I’m already thinking about a summer cloak. It needs to be something other than fleece fabric though, and I won’t line it.
It’s a bit warm to be wearing this but the hood makes me so happy! I just have to top stitch round the edge of the main cloak and put some buttons on and it will be finished :D
The sewing is done! (Apart from buttons). I put it on and it’s so warm!! Super happy with it :D
The front will fasten with buttons and a cord knot
The more observant of you will notice that I’ve not used the trim that I posted a photo of at the top of this thread. I decided the knotwork looked good on it’s own. I’ll save the pretty trim for something else
