Corona is the perfect cover for all sorts of totalitarian shit. Biggest loss isn’t going to be from the virus or the economy. It’s going to come from the freedoms they take under the guise of safety, and the upcoming reliance upon the state. This decade is going to suck ass
The virus is an enemy that does not engender the inherent bias that is prevalent in the world. If the enemy were a business/country/politician, only half the population would be on board to fight, the other half would support. The virus unites everyone in fear.
It has people looking to China as an example of the controls that should be implemented worldwide, instead of the grotesque authoritarian nightmare that it is. BUT arguing against strict controls in this situation places people in danger, so it becomes anathema.
This gives the powers that be nearly free reign to implement or test the implementation of a wide array of authoritarian tools in their arsenal. With the welcoming approval of the populace.
Timed with a financial crisis (that record number of large company CEO’s seemed to know was coming) that is essentially putting whole countries on welfare and will end up with government control over large portions of the private market due to conditional bailouts.
Not to mention the amount of changes that will occur after the crisis is over. I’m expecting a shift to digital state currencies and banning of physical mediums of exchange. And mass bio surveillance at travel points and ports of entry. At the least. Welcome to the shit.
