So here's a thread of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 players who I like, in every position. I was interested in the less obvious ones (in other words not Saliba, Kamara or Camavinga), who haven't necessarily got what it takes to make it at the very top level but are worth a watch.
All players are 25 years old maximum.
Goalkeepers: Mike Maignan (Lille), excellent shot stopper, reliable, has everything you expect from a modern goalkeeper. Predrag Rajkovic (Reims), having a brilliant first season in France, penalty specialist. Gauthier Larsonneur (Brest), the future of french goalkeeping.
Center Backs: Not talking about William Saliba and Boubacar Kamara, who are ahead of the pack. But keep an eye on: Axel Disasi (Reims), excellent first season in the french top flight. Wesley Fofana (Saint-Etienne), plays alongside Saliba and very promising.
Center Backs (continued): Mohamed Simakan (Strasbourg). I rate him very highly and reckon he'll go to the very top eventually. Played mostly right back this season but has everything you want from a modern center back, his preferred position.
Right backs: The obvious talent here is Youcef Atal (Nice), most of you already know him. Then, I really like Zeki Celik (Lille), attacking right back, decent defensively too. Special mentions for Colin Dagba (PSG) and Fabien Centonze (Metz) who have both impressed me.
Left backs: The next big thing coming from France in that position is Rayan Ait Nouri (Angers). Will end up at a top club, no doubt about that. Great talent. Honorable mentions for Faitout Maouassa (Rennes) and Romain Perraud (Brest), two modern left backs to keep an eye on.
Defensive midfielders: Eduardo Camavinga (Rennes) is obviously ahead of the pack but you all know him now. I've always liked Wylan Cyprien (Nice), who's struggling a bit to get back to form since a bad knee injury.
DM (continued): Special mentions for Zaydou Youssouf (Saint-Etienne) currently injured, Pape Gueye (Le Havre) who you've heard of because he got linked to Arsenal and Cheick Doucouré (Lens), all three powerful and promising players.
Creative midfielders: Again, the obvious name here is Houssem Aouar (Lyon), with a great future ahead of him. This season I've been really impressed by Morgan Sanson (Marseille), a proper box to box, high energy player. Not sure he has what it takes to make it to the higher level
Creative midfielders (continued): 3 young players have caught the eye this season, in smaller teams: Enzo Le Fée (Lorient), lovely little player. Mounir Chouiar (Dijon), technically impressive and great runs into the box. Imran Louza (Nantes), creative player, great vision.
Wingers: Jonathan Ikoné (Lille) is already a France international. Often plays number 10. Raphinha (Rennes), has impressed for his first season with Rennes, coming from the Portuguese league. Moses Simon (Nantes) looks very promising, powerful and scores quite a lot.
Strikers: As you all know, I rate Victor Osimhen (Lille) very highly. He has everything you expect from a moder striker. One to keep an eye out for is Habib Diallo (Metz), proper powerhouse, 12 goals this season after finishing Ligue 2 top scorer last year.
Strikers (continued): Now three strikers from Ligue 2: Tino Kadewere (Le Havre), an absolute goal machine, already signed for Lyon next season. Adrian Grbic (Clermont), austrian, powerful and impressive stats in the surprise team so far. Yoanne Wissa (Lorient), decent numbers too
And there you have it. Most of these players won't make it at the very top but they can definitely help out some decent teams. This might also be helpful for your Football Manager saves. Saliba, Kamara, Camavinga and Aouar are all head and shoulders above the rest though.
