It will be a dream come true if I am blessed with the honor of adopting children someday. So, I have been researching adoption for years.

The adoption process is so different from country to country.

Here are 10 really cool things you need to know about adoption in Nigeria 👇🏿
1. In Nigeria, only Nigerian citizens can adopt children in Nigeria. That means two foreigners, one foreigner or one foreigner married to a citizen cannot adopt a child in or from Nigeria.
2.  In some states, at least one prospective adoptive parents must be at least 25 years of age and 21 years older than the child.

That means if you're 27, you cannot adopt a 7 year old.

Got it?
3. Nigeria allows single people and married couples to adopt children. However, a married couple must adopt the child JOINTLY and singles can only adopt children of the same sex, except in extraordinary circumstances. These circumstances are assessed by adoption officials.
4. A child has to be an orphan to be adopted or the parents of the child have to have 'given up' the child to an orphanage or to be under the care of the government. That's why not all children in the orphanage can be adopted because some of them are there temporarily.
5. There is no financial requirement to adopt in Nigeria but the process could take years and years!
