I spoke on @670TheScore about the false narrative of Eddie Jackson being misused. I explain here how "box safeties" and "strong safeties" no longer exist and how EJack played the exact same position this year. In the next tweet I show examples of how he's used best. (*Sound*)
In this you'll see where EJack does his best work. Rotating into underneath coverage and driving on the football. His instincts and anticipation is what makes him one of the best safeties in the NFL. He isnt best playing "free safety" he's best at moving forward.. not backwards..
The difference with prod. in 2018 vs 2019 is the fact that Eddie Jackson is now known around the league so teams avoided throwing underneath passes AND you saw LESS two high coverage looks that allowed Ejack to play deep, have his heels in the ground and drive on the football.
Now Clinton-Dix is gone you'll need a boundary safety. You want to see Pagano roll Ejack in underneath but also use more two high shells. So what do you want opposite of him? You want a guy that is good in coverage. When Ejack rolls underneath the other rolls deep.
In two high shells the safety opposite of EJack will still be playing deep coverage. So considering he will be playing a lot of deep coverage he has to be good at playing that way more than anything else. A "box safety" type is the last thing you want.Coverage support>Run support
The #Bears re-signed Deon Bush. He's capable of playing the boundary safety position because he can roll into deep coverage while also playing two high and capable of rolling into underneath coverage. He is a low end starter. Look for them to continue to look to upgrade.
HaHa was the best coverage safety on the market when signed. There werent a whole lot of options but now that he's gone its time to start searching. Damarious Randall is a guy with an extended amount of experience in deep coverage. He's played in a ton of single high schemes.
Ashtyn Davis is a guy that could be a #Bears R2 target. He's got good range and experience in deep coverages.
