Not planning on live-tweeting, juat wanna say these graphics are fucking gorgeous.
Tom Nook, man! He said, here I got you this, and that, and this other thing...oh! And last thing before you turn in for the night...an itemized bill, have a good evening!

Oh man, Custom Design is BYKE! I used to kill so much time doing this on the original GC version!
Also, with online now being a thing, maybe I can actually do the whole visiting other players and trading goods thing...?

He said...living your life debt-free on a scenic island, what could be better? Btw, how that lil tent treating ya..

LOL!!

LOL!!
Oooh, I really like how Nook Miles gives you rewards for the different things you can do, so you get progressively better tools and even new features. Very good improvement on the original.
In the original game, you honestly plateau'e rather quickly, where it just became running around for a couple hours every day, running your errands and hoping you found something new and interesting.
The game was fun but that got tiresome to me real quickly. This remedies that.

And crafting is now a thing?? Ohhhh bitch, this game finna be a blessing during this quarantine, hallelu!
Now is a great time to pause and go to bed, since a couple new developments require some time passing (for those unaware, the game is set in real-time, based off the system clock), and I'm going to...
...but damn I don't wanna stop playing!
...but damn I don't wanna stop playing!

OG Animal Crossing was the first game I ever encountered to utilize the system clock this way, and tbh, I think there's an argument that it really set the foundation for majority of mobile gaming. Just a thought

New day, new crib! This is the life I envisioned for myself when I moved to this island *checks clock* 12 hours ago.
Nah legit that house is SO cute. I am in heaven right now.
Ignore the mess, but LOL at this studio spotlight I just happened upon. She almost ready for her Youtube channel.

Museum getting built but I no longer like the spot I chose

When Nook first hit me with that 98,000 Bells I was ready to laugh in his damn face...but ok, little Timmy Nook will buy anything off you (even weeds!) for pretty good coin, so it balances out.
GameStop is SHAKING!
GameStop is SHAKING!
I am irrationally excited about this!

(Don't mind Blathers, he's more of a night owl, bless his heart.)

(Don't mind Blathers, he's more of a night owl, bless his heart.)
And the museum is legit GORGEOUS. My jaw literally dropped, wow!

Museum, Nook's Cranny, and my first house expansion today...mamas was BUSY yesterday, okay??
I popped the treasure balloon over the water on purpose to see what would happen, it was lost to the river goddess as expected (this is hyperbole)...but then my Nookphone went off. Losing your first treasure is rewarded with Nook Miles.
Nook values EVERY experience

Me, yesterday: Man, some of this DIY furniture is really nice but I wish you could, like...paint it other colors or something.
Tom Nook, today: So I'm hosting customization workshops today for DIY furniture!

Whew I know it's just pent-up emotion but the "With hope for our continued growth..." part of each dedication ceremony gets me every time. Got a bitch feeling like he's a part of something grand...
30,000 Bells just literally dropped out of the sky.
In case anyone was wondering why we love this game so much. Imagine...??

When you visit each other's islands, do y'all...do anything special? Or just let the visitor run around and explore? I'm always so awkward lol
(It's me, I'm broke bitches.)
My friend, who is very much my nap buddy, came to visit. This is the closest human contact I've had in weeks

(Idk why or how she became a legendary meme but the Doom crossover fanart has been glorious so I'm here for it.)
Nah, but this Resident Services upgrade just took island customization to the next level. Everything so damn expensive too, which means more value in all the little activities you can do to earn Bells.
Excellent damn pacing
Excellent damn pacing

And they pick a great spot, imo, to introduce all the expensive shit, which essentially slows down the game and instant gratification aspect.
It drives the first week of play, gave you sense of accomplishment needed to keep playing, and now you're hooked and willing to commit.

(If this does not apply to you, and you somehow hate the game and hate the FOMO that made you buy the game in the first place and hate everyone playing the game then, uhhhh....ignore that last tweet, you are obviously not the "you" I was talking about
)

Wow, the music even changes. The whole vibe of the island levels up when you get the Resident Services building, damn!
So, I thought you paid upfront for infrastructure like bridges, but you pick the style you want, choose the spot, then make payments like with your house loan and the bridge is built when the cost is met.
Spreading the word cause I goofed and now I lost a day, oops
Spreading the word cause I goofed and now I lost a day, oops

(For the record, I like this SO much better than paying them hefty ass fees upfront anyway, so I ain't even mad lol learning is part of the experience)
My first campsite move-in is Eugene, and I love his gay ass already.
Such a cool koala. A cool-ala, if you will

LOL when I plotted out my initial neighbors' tents, I did it from the perspective of the original game where you have like maybe 4 villagers max...?
If I had known Nook was tryna build a whole civilization, I'd have planned it better!!

I put the houses so damn far away, and now I'm channeling all the zoning lessons I learned from SimCity as I re-envision my island LOL this is my happy place.
I'm so proud of the ways Zelda and Animal Crossing (and I'm gonna say Mario too, though I've only seen screenshots from Odyssey yet) have evolved in the Switch era. They really bounced tf back after the WiiU.
One of my favorite neighbors is singing in the plaze and my other favorite neighbor sat down to enjoy the show. Too cute!!
I just spent several hours running around planning a layout for my island. And yes, that SimCity training came in clutch, I definitely separated it into zones

One part of me is like: wow these houses are cramped together, so much for yard space
But the other part is like: the entire island is yard space, this is all just for aesthetic appeal

But the other part is like: the entire island is yard space, this is all just for aesthetic appeal

Woke up to this letter in my mailbox from my favorite neighbor and tell me why it made me tear up like it's from a real person?

Also, heads up, the K.K. photo frames sold through the Nook Kiosk are NOT just frames, those are the actual songs for tape decks/cassette players/etc!!
Been tryna figure out how to get those this whole time, I'm mad now
Been tryna figure out how to get those this whole time, I'm mad now

K.K. Slider, the BeyoncΓ© of Animal Crossing, gave our little island a concert, and it was so cute!!
And I finally got the Island Designer app!! That means PATHING!!!! This game ain't never getting turned off now, see y'all next year

(Don't have a micro-SD card so this the only way I can embed video into the thread lol)
Anyway, still a work in progress, replacing the pear trees with orange trees and moving my pears elsewhere, etc etc. But loving my progress! https://twitter.com/stevie_mat/status/1246980538763599872?s=19

Can you tell I love theme parks? LOL https://twitter.com/stevie_mat/status/1247011200744865792?s=19
This really was not coming together until I remembered about that damn rope fence recipe. I was about to be so sad. Been visualizing this for damn near a week now

Been tryna make a habit of changing my outfit every day, but I may never change clothes again. I think I peaked here

I hope there's no reward or anything for doing all the ceremonies cause I definitely skipped the one for the campsite (cause why??) and then forgot about the Able Sisters

I love how part of moving buildings is contacting the person who occupies that building for their consent. Like they obviously ain't gon say no, but it's a cute touch.
Imagine if one of them did say no, though? Don't let me catch they ass outside of Resident Services, it's on sight bruh!!
Wasn't doing it a lot before, so I'm only now having to cope with the tough realization that most mystery islands you visit are just regular islands
Getting Money Rock Island first threw off my expectations

Getting Money Rock Island first threw off my expectations
Idk when my game decided I was a plant gay but I swear the only new furniture I'm finding is house plants

We all know what Blathers hates, but I think I discovered what he loves: mammoths!!
And for good reason, Miss Ma'am is giving us leg, giving us pose, giving us magazine cover, okayyy??
And for good reason, Miss Ma'am is giving us leg, giving us pose, giving us magazine cover, okayyy??
K.K. Slider was taking requests. I asked him for something laid-back, he played K.K Love Song, and I teared up cause it was so damn perfect. I hate this game

Isabelle making you plant all them damn flowers to get K.K. Slider to visit really backfires once it's time to terraform your island and you have to dig and move all them damn flowers

Two days straight of planning and terraforming, but I'm finally to the moving buildings phase
I have absolutely torn this island apart but it's about to be gorgeous!

Still got a ways to go before it's where I want it all, but here's what I been working on the past week.
Carnival area, shopping plaza, secret beach, new (and hopefully final!) house location https://twitter.com/stevie_mat/status/1251106114072002562?s=19

Eugene, the koala who I'm certain is some artsy gay boy, is convincing Axel, the himbo jock elephant, that tights are a great fashion choice for island life.
Oh honey, the fan fiction I could write about this if I was that kinda girl...

Built this waterfall shrine in the center of one of my residential districts that I'm extremely proud of

And Walt, the kangaroo dad with a zen-themed home that I was thinking of as I built it, happened to be the first villager I see there this morning. How serendipitous!
One of my favorite things about this game is how many of the objects are somewhat functional and villagers will use them of their own accord.
So like, no, no one's gonna ride the teacup ride, but you will find neighbors hanging out in plazas you design, for example.

Contrast that to, say, Minecraft which is basically 95% aesthetic past the few tools and objects you use for survival mode.
It's just enough, here, to ensure your island actually feels vibrant and not just aesthetic but alive. Love it so much.

Happy 1-Month Anniversary to all my lovely Animal Crossing fam. What a fun little escape this has been!

For anyone who wants to decorate their house with high art!

I guess Nook's Cranny upgrades after you spend enough Bells there or something? They're closing tomorrow for renovations, and here I thought all that was done. Cool!
According to this, three requirements have to be met to get the upgrade:
β’ Play for 30 days
β’ Buy/Sell at least 200,000 bells worth of goods
β’ Have Mabel visit your island https://animalcrossingworld.com/guides/new-horizons/how-to-upgrade-expand-nooks-cranny/

My outdoor cafe for the other residential district! Still a WIP as I collect better objects but I really like the way this came together

Does Saharah not realize flooring goes INSIDE the house? Construction-site flooring, dig site flooring, crosswalk flooring...baby, I'm tryna build a HOME, the hell I'm sposed to do with all this??
I wrote about Animal Crossing and its potential for helping us imagine a world beyond capitalism.

This is literally on the opposite corner of the island from her house, AND she laughed at the end, y'all saw that?? She knew what she doing. Ain't you ready for a new island, Charlise? Lemme call Isabelle...
I hope a future update gives us the option to decorate the surface of ponds and lakes. Like lily pads and moss and shit like that. These bodies of water just be looking bland!
My island is coming together so nicely

That was a fun little maze tho. I'm not very fond of puzzles, but that one was easy enough to not frustrate me, but challenging enough to not bore me either.
And a cute little reward of bells too. Not sure what to do with this briefcase yet so I'll just hold onto it.
