In the absence of sports, I think we're going to need some intense Top Chef conversations. Who's in?
I don’t have the ability to watch TV live but please don’t worry, I will have plenty of #TopChef hot takes in a day or two.
#TopChef episode 1:
- What on earth was Lee Anne thinking?
- Joe made mediocre pasta and mediocre flatbread. ByE!
- Had forgotten how much I loved Stephanie as a contestant.
- The mentor/mentee/colleague relationship between Brian and Eric is neat.
Meta-thought:
The older/wiser/more grounded versions of contestants are almost certainly better chefs. Not sure that will make them better *competitors* though. Seems like too much introspection is likely to dull the cutting edge.
#TopChef episode 2:
- Can't imagine anyone wanting to eat dessert fish, so yeah, that made sense
- Was terrified they were going to send Eric home
- "It's the kind of thing people who hate restaurants hate about restaurants"
#TopChef episode 4:
- Always love a vegetarian challenge. I would eat ALL of those dishes.
- Especially Jen's jerk cauliflower, Melissa's corn soup, and both desserts.
- Dear god get Malarkey off this show.
- Care 0% about the Trolls thing, but Kelly Clarkson rules.
#TopChef episode 5:
- Dear god get Malarkey off this show
- No surprise Melissa sold the most. I would 1000% buy her peach kimchi vinaigrette
- Love the moms, especially Nini's
- Eric and his wife = ❤️
#TopChef episode 6:
- It's always hard to figure out when the judges are going to vote on Topicality. Sounds like the two bottom dishes were outstanding but just didn't quite fit the challenge.
- Speaking of voting, I am now a single issue No Malarkey voter.
#TopChef episode 7:
- Terrible see Eric go, and on that concept, too. Very sad.
- Melissa continuing to kill it. Another judge calling her food Michelin-quality.
- Feels like Stephanie could absolutely be a Mewis sister
- Malarkey is unbearable
#TopChef episode 8:
- Why did Kevin insist on serving so many dishes?! Why do they never learn from previous seasons?!
- Judges didn't like it, but weirdly-stuffy-yet-casual is actually *very* southern grandmother
- +1 for Stephanie stepping in to be nice to the servers
#TopChef episode 9:
- They served 14 brunch dishes and no eggs wtf
- They all complained about the limited ingredients
- But didn't use the eggs
- WTF
- Dear god get Malarkey off this show
#TopChef episode 10:
- These are all incredible chefs
- Really happy for Stephanie's win. More big Mewis energy
- Once again, Michelle is too nice! Love her generosity but also want her to knife some people
- How is Malarkey still on this show ugh
#TopChef episode 11:
- Malarkey is finally gone!
- Big fan of Stephanie interpreting Jonathan Waxman. Great fit.
- Another killer dish from Melissa
- They're going to Lucca! I've eaten ice cream in literally that piazza!
And when I say 'ice cream' of course I mean gelato. How embarrassing for me to have not specified!
#TopChef episode 12:
- So happy they went to Lucca. A beautiful, very underrated city.
- "Here's 250€ for groceries. And also like 1000€ worth of truffles. Go!"
- Seems like everyone kind of overthought it. Just hit Gregory the hardest, sadly.
#TopChef episode 13:
- Another win for Melissa. Damn right.
- Stephanie has one of the best development arcs of anyone in 18 seasons.
- At the start, I said 'wiser' might make better chefs but not necessarily better contestants. Really feeling that for B. Voltaggio.
#TopChef finale:
- Melissa *crushed* this season. Apparently fusion is cliche these days? Regardless, she did it so well that it didn't matter.
- Feel bad for Bryan - the Buffalo Bills of Top Chef.
- Stephanie needs to open a restaurant so I can go eat there!
