Since everyone is self-quarantining & social distancing to prevent the spread of #COVID19, let’s share movie/TV show recs to keep us all occupied while stuck at home 🏡🎬🎞

A🧵of some of my recent (and not-so-recent) favorites, and where to stream them 👉🏼

(RT/add yours below!)
Jojo Rabbit (2019, PG-13 🎬)

This is one of my favorite movies in recent memory — satire, heart, and pain so beatifully captured by @TaikaWaititi and crew. Highly recommend

Streaming: Amazon Prime rental for $5.99 (well-worth it, I promise)
Dickinson (2019-Present, TV-14 📺)

This quirky, weirdo comedy inspired by the life of Emily Dickinson hit all the marks for me — but certainly could be a unique test. Modern music, dialogue, and jokes all set in the 1800s....I promise, it’s very good.

Streaming: Apple TV+
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-Present, TV-MA 📺)

This hilarious period dramedy is a show I wish I’d found sooner — I can’t wait for season 4. Dry humor, fast-paced dialogue, and a great story of overcoming others’ doubts of what you’re capable of.

Streaming: Amazon Prime
Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989, G 🎬)

I’m very late to the Ghibli Studios party (thanks @siracusa @hotdogsladies). Kiki in particular shows that even when the world around us knocks us down, perserverance can overpower even the strongest of winds.

Streaming: Netflix with a VPN!
For All Mankind (2019-Present, TV-MA 📺)

An alternate history drama where the Russians beat the US to the moon. Fantastic acting, riveting suspense, and an imaginative rewriting of events in post-1960s America.

Streaming: Apple TV+
Brooklyn 99 (2013-Present, TV-14 📺)

Again, I’m late to this party, but wow is this show funny — just as you’d expect from creator Michael Schur. Think The Office, but in the setting of a NYC police precinct. 100% binge-able.

Streaming: Hulu, NBC/Peacock
Watchmen (2019, TV-MA 📺)

This dark alternate history drama from Damon Lindelof might not be a great distraction from a global pandemic, but damn if it isn’t one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. (Consider watching the Watchmen movie first)

Streaming: HBO
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse (2018, PG 🎬)

This is perhaps the best animated movie of all time, the best Spiderman movie of all time, and dare I say the best Marvel movie of all time. If you haven’t seen it somehow, do so now.

Streaming: Netflix
Mad Men (2007-2015, TV-MA 📺)

I’ve rewatched Mad Men one too many times, but I just can’t help it — it’s critically-acclaimed for a reason. The stories of Don Draper and Peggy Olson in this period drama are two of my favorites in television.

Streaming: Netflix
Peaky Blinders (2013-Pressnt, TV-MA 📺)

Another period drama about a crime family in post-WWI Birmingham, UK. Dark, dramatic, yet comic at times. Thomas Shelby’s demons and aspirations make for excellent television. Also, the soundtrack is spectacular.

Streaming: Netflix
The Mandelorian (2019-Present, TV-PG 📺

If you somehow missed out on Baby Yoda, definitely give the Mandelorian a watch. @Jon_Favreau gives us the post-Disney Star Wars content that every fan has long dreamt of.

Streaming: Disney+
The Good Place (2016-2020, TV-PG 📺)

The funniest, brightest, and most optimistic show about death, dying, and flawed human morality you could ever find. Distract yourself from depressing coronavirus news with a creative take on the afterlife.

Streaming: Hulu, NBC, Netflix
Your Name (2016, PG 🎬)

A breathtakingly beautiful movie with so much emotion, longing, pain, and love to feel as you watch. I don’t even want to describe this movie — you’ll be blown away. Stunning visuals and sound.

Streaming: Amazon Prime rental for $2.99 (100% worth it)
Devs (2020-Present, TV-MA 📺)

This show just premiered this month, and it hooked me right off the bat. @Nick_Offerman as an eclectic big-tech founder type with dark secrets and questionable intentions. An eerie dystopia not too far off from our own.

Streaming: Hulu
