đź’« ESSEK THELYSS WIP THREAD đź’« art by @ornerine !!!!

Please go to her page for the full art because I am botching it with screenshots for my costume purposes and her designs are BEAUTIFUL for all of Mercer’s Mages.
A LOT of this project has been sourcing. I decided to use @silkbaron dupioni for the majority of the construction, a http://Fabric.com  velvet and ShineArtShop stones. This is the first project for which ive ordered SWATCHES- except Comet Tail, which I ordered outright.
Tonight and last night I whipped together two mocks- this is the 2nd iteration because @KateMurrs pointed out the LEG that separates the panels from the point of the front panels. I also used their help with patterning this tunic and I owe them my life and one (1) museum trip
PATTERNING FUN - all the marking I usually wouldn’t do on a personal project is HERE!! I am TAKING NOTES because I will forget what I have done tomorrow guaranteed but this prevents it!
Also @Little_Mantis is my star above and a sweet pet who got me tights for this build, which I dyed today! Wanted a midpoint between “gray drow” and “purple drow”. Pictured are bits right out of the dye bath and then dry- I’m still considering a re-do
hello sir, excuse me, mr. thelyss, does your thotty little tits-out bolero point DOWN in the back or does it point UP towards your shoulders. I can't tell.
Tunic: 5 pieces

Bolero: 8 pieces plus 3 trims

I am praying for a Blessed Seam (tm) in the back too, pray for moi
OKAY the pictures arent cute so I'm not posting them, but Essek has over 23 individual pieces including his funky trims! The plan is to start quilting the main tunic tomorrow. School's out on quilting the top pieces of the bolero but we will SEE
stupid twitter crop BUT I got everything cut out (heres the outer and the lining) and cut out pieces of batting to quilt the front and back panels where I'll put the rhinestones
quilting is GO, I did get a little rushed with it and made some mistakes on the back BUT I'm going to use my seam ruler and map out the front panel to remove the "eyeballin' it" factor.

did some rhinestone figuring too - going to vary the warm/cool light purples for flavour
the rhinestone detail is actually very important to me because I feel like it puts the "ah yes, violet made this" touch on it but also how am i NOT supposed to imagine that this man, this Mans, is not covered in tiny stars to reflect the light?
also it should be mentioned on here I tested Essek's makeup, un-edited comparison image so you can see the body paint IRL and also my TERRIBLE UNPAINTED HAND featuring @RootBeerRiku dice
i am very much considering cutting the top of this wig off like Beau cosplayers do and pinning it into my actual hair so I can expose my undercut, but.... I'm afraid of permanently butchering this wig haha
oKAY it also wouldnt be me making it if I didn't. accidentally flip it!!! and only notice when I've finished the quilting. The urge to... re-do it....
:< !!!!!!!! IM UPSET
I’m actually really disappointed that this is flipped, and I know that if I don’t fix it NOW while it’s fixable that I will be upset at it. So I’m fixing it.
HE IS UNPICKED. I serged the edges of these panels and sadly lost a lot of seam allowance but I’m not too worried about it in the grand scheme- I also enlarged the diamond quilting from the original design and I’m paying closer attention to straight lines! A win overall!
Comparison between the diamond sizing- just a HAIR bigger but it will reduce the # of rhinestones I use overall so I can use them on the cloak later ~
Edges are all serged up and I decided to interface the non-quilted side of the tunic to give it some body because it was really just draping wrinkly without it! The side by side interfaced vs. not interfaced is nsfw
My waist is Very Concave as a structure so it’s a little wrinkly right there and I don’t think any measure of taking it in is going to fix. I was able to minimize the wrinkling in the back as best I could as well but it’s still got a little bit of a pull...
Hoping that binder + setting in the sleeves + overlayer of the bolero will tie it together and also fix some of the wrinkling or at least camouflage it since I really picture him as one big smooth silhouette
