Debriefed the day with @grumblesthacook by turning cardboard boxes into starter trays for corn & sunflowers (to avoid šŸæ)

Corn varieties:
- Cuban (harvested from visiting Havana)
- Mexico (when we lived in Nayarit)
- My 3rd generation saved bloody butcher x painted hill cross
And the sunflowers from @organicgay! Congregating with two versions of my saved seeds.
Here come the sunnys šŸŒ»
22 hours later šŸŒ»
Corn peeking in
Sunflower and corn update
ready for transplant šŸ˜
If youā€™re following the race, maize de Mexico is in the lead, my saved seed in second, and Cuba lagging behind in 3rd šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚
The white parts are really going to develop into the root systems if I help them. Iā€™m going to bury this corn up to the green leaves that are forming and it really helps fortify them - keep burying, keep mulching your seedlings when theyā€™re this small. Give them living compost
This is how I bury the corn - right up to the new growth. This encourages them to develop strong root systems. Iā€™ll continue to do this as they grow and usually the respond pretty quickly to being mulched
More mulching šŸŒ½
Starting corn in succession šŸ‘ two week intervals
The first thing your plant does is develop a root system.
Hereā€™s the first set of corn - more mulch again today because why not. You can see the acceleration of growth now
