I’m a big fan of little things of mundane beauty - in this thread I celebrate the badges worn by staff of the six English PTEs which ran the buses (and sometimes trains) in the non-London Metropolitan counties between 1969-74 (various start dates) and 86. First up, Tyne and Wear:
PTE = Passenger Transport Executive (and Scotland added a 7th with Greater Glasgow, later Strathclyde, for which I have no badge!). Here is an Inspector’s badge from South Yorkshire, the logo being a stylised S and Y:
West Yorkshire went by the name of Metro with different badges for its various operating regions. The main logo was a Yorkshire rose formed out of Ws and Ys:
West Midlands:
Merseyside:
And finally, the iconic Greater Manchester logo recreated in badge form by @modernistsoc
Oh, and here is another South Yorkshire example in all its brown and cream glory!
Not a complete set, but here are some SELNEC Drivers badges. South East Lancashire North East Cheshire - the forerunner to Greater Manchester PTE.
And another West Midlands one to add to the collection...
